Just got tickets for my tints!!

I was on the beltway on my way home when a state trooper pulls me over. I put my window down and he busts out with "put your window half way up i'm going to test your tints right now" so i'm thinkin gosh...okay mr.grumpy....N-Eways he bi$%#es about my clear headlights, not having front tags and obviously the tints. He only gives me a $75 ticket for my tints which are 30% and lets the rest slide.
But what really sucks is that it was my fisrt day back from vacation and had really missed my civic and was so glad to be driving it again. But O well.....

ok think about the safety of the cop. a person with tints the cop cant see inside the car. for all he knows someone in the car can have a gun pointed at him. would u like to be the cop that has to pull over a tinted out car late night? and dont give the comeback "yea well i dont carry a gun in the car" because the cop doesnt know that when he pulls u over. u deserved the ticket, end of story.

Man, that's dumb. I hate it when cops pull you over and just look for things to give you a ticket for. My brother used to drive an S-10 lowrider truck. He got pulled over all the time for dumb stuff like: having his windows too dark, having his license plate cover tinted, having it too low, and having his stereo too loud.

Why the hell would you buy a truck and then lower it. That's the dumbest thing.

Also, if you don't abide by the law of window tinting, then that's your own fault. You deserve it. I wouldn't want to be a cop and have to pull over a tinted car and can't see the driver at night. Who knows if he's got a gun pointed at you.

Yeah but as long as he rolls his window down before the cop comes up to the vehicle, I think that's stupid to give him a ticket. If the cop walks up and the windows still all the way up and he can't see in. Then that's another storyl

All of those that you mention are legitimate equipment violations. The cop didn't just pull the stuff out of the sky...it's fair game if it's on the books...Cops don't make the laws, they just enforce 'em.

The whole thing about it being dangerous is right but but 30% are see through....I mean at certain angles and at night they are dark as hell but come on.
4real though....it feels like sometimes cops have nothing to do get on peoples nerves. I've had a few runnins with cops but there are a lot of them that are cool as hell out there. They just have to do their job I guess

We're just doing our jobs when we're enforcing the laws. I work nights a lot and when I stop an unlawfully tinted car, sometimes my takedowns (high powered overhead spotlights mounted in the lightbar) won't even do anything because the car is so dark.

Everybody has their own taste....i think Lowered trucks are tight. I personally wouldnt do it just because i dont have money coming out of my a$$ to waste like that but I've seen trucks at shows and magazines that are mad tight. If I ever do have the money to soup up a truck I fo sho wouldnt drive it around.

Hey, I'm in Northern Virginia too, and I have 20% tint. I haven't been pulled over yet though, so I guess I've just been lucky. I have three friends who are cops, and they all tell me that it's downright scary walking up to a tinted car. I couldn't imagine being a cop with the world like it is today. I have a lot of respect for policeman.

I just got 35% on the sides and Limo on the back window. My wife said 'did you get the sides done?' I was happy. Chances are I won't get pulled over.

I have limo tint on the rears and medium on the fronts. I usually roll my windows down when I'm anywhere near an officer just in case.

I know my tints are illegal, and I know I might get cited for it. If I do I'll have one of my LEO friends write it off though.

As far as night driving goes, if I get stopped at night I turn my dome lights on and wave to the officer before I even start pulling over and I roll both windows down before I come to a stop. I do everything in my power to ease any fears he might have and make his job easier.

Qcksilvr, that's fine when cops are doing their jobs and enforcing the laws, but you have to admit there are some crooked cops and some that just are on a power trip. For instance, one time my brother got pulled over because the cop said the lights around his license plate were out. First of all, they were driving in opposite directions, so I don't see how the cop could have even noticed that. But that's not the BS part. My brother didn't believe him, and asked if he could get out to check for himself and the lights were fine.

I can read license plates of cars in my side mirrors, it's possible the officer thought they were out. Driving is a privledge and not a right, so if an officer merely believes something is wrong, he may stop the vehicle. There need not be concrete, rock hard proof that something illegal is occuring...merely the officers belief.

There are 10% of bad apples in police work, just as in any other profession.

If you are driving with you rwindows down an a cop pulls you over to give you a rice ticket.....

My Q. is if you had your windows down an the cop never saw anytint.. jus assumed you had it casue you have altezzas or somehting.. do you have to comply with there request to roll up your window?

Edit: in case you do have to comply.. is it legal to have a lil decal that says f*ck Off... like our 7thgencivic stickers.. since I dont have tint I'd be annoyed having to abide by his whim an his attemtp to jus find something wrong so he could write me a ticket?

Yeah, you can have a decal that says that. If the officer has reason to believe your window tints are in violation, he or she may request you to roll the window up. BUT...I usually won't care if when I approach a car all the windows are down already because it shows me that the driver is looking out for my safety, so I'll help the motorist out....most cops will do that.

ok quick.... but if he never saw you with your windows up... why would he have reason to believe they where tinted.. thusly making it right for him to ask you to roll up your window. Where is the line drawn on an officers line of reason/ an maybe jus trying to give someone a hard time? <---- those 10% who maybe bad apple not police in general

The reason this interest me is I am planning on gettin tint done just becasue my one job is delivering pizza an when the suns out it can get hot even with the ac on.... I believe in my area I have to have 70% visability which means I guess I can have a 30%tint on driver an more everywhere else.. an jus for having tint for a legitimate purpose.. I dont want to worry about being hassled...

though I will be respectful if pulled over.. I'd jus like to know the best route of telling the officer it is legal so I dont have to end up wasting a day of work in court fightin a ticket I shouldnt have gotten (happend to a friend of mine.. though he had a fairly souped up ride)

Well, I only write tint tickets if the person asks for it and is exceptionally rude. Something that might lead the officer to believe that the windows were tinted would be if the back window was tinted...that obviously doesn't slide down...

A lesson that I learned is it is not where you are from, but where you are at. 20% is legal in New Mexico, but when I was driving through Arizona where the legal limit is 35%, I got a ticket. It is called quasi-_________. The cop wanted me to strip my tint infront of him with a razor blade that he had. I told him that I was 30 miles from the NM border and if would give me a break I would just pay the ticket and not contest it (which would require him to be in court). The same thing happened when I drove through VA with a radar detector.

I'm not sure if thats entirely true. For example, Pennsylvania has some very strict laws regarding window tinting; I believe prohibiting it. A vehicle from New York with New York registration is exempt from the Pennsylvania window tint regulations...
