ECU Information
I have a 1996 Honda Civic DX, 5 speed manual transmission, D16Y7 engine. My ECU is bad and I need to replace it. I have been reading about the numbers on the ECU and I am getting conflicting information. Some people say that the numbers must match exactly, others say no. I have some idea what they stand for...not really clear...but I need some guidance. Do I have to EXACTLY match the numbers or not? If not, which ones do I need to match? Also, does the new one have to be programmed? My ECU number is:
37820-P2E-L01-901-114655
Thanks for the help!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: ECU Information
Here's all I got on the ECM number
37820-P2E-L01 is the Honda part number of the ECM, the rest of the string isn't significant
Fits 1996 only;
2, 3, 4 doors,
DX, CX, LX non-VTEC,
California emissions (KL),
manual trans
If it was not a California car it would have a different ECM number and might be easier to locate. IDK if a non-Cali unit can work correctly in a Cali emissions car.
37820-P2E-426 and 426RM would also be valid part numbers
No programming necessary
