Re: Re-cleared Carbon fiber! 56k NO WAY!

Question: My hood looks worse than yours when you started. And I have cracks all around the hood pins and a crack right in the center. Is it worth it to do this or will my hood just keep cracking? I mean, I know it'll look way better but I don't know how fast the cracks spread and what not.

(Don't know much about CF and bought my car for cheap in this condition)

EDIT: is there a way to delete my post? I figured I'd start a topic instead of thread jacking the OP.

What does 56k no way mean?

Re: Re-cleared Carbon fiber! 56k NO WAY!

that looks beautiful i need to get me a Carbon Fiber hood. Where can i find those? My 4door LX would greatly appreciate such a hood that would really bring out the silver paint.

I have a question though since you put on that hood did you lose the Windshield washer ability? because aren't the little ports for the washer fluid on the hood that shoot onto Windshield?

Ended up selling the dam thing :P

Yes there were no holes in the hood and i was not about to drill holes in my new carbon fiber hood when i bought it 7 years ago.. so i relocated the just under the hood on the black plasic in front of the windshield..

Sorry if im bombarding you with questions its just that since joining this forum i have really taking a liking to the idea of upgrading my Civics looks and such.

Wet sanded and cleared it on monday and finished about 3pm... let it dry in garage for about an hour then let it sit out side for the rest of the day in the 90 degree sun.. then tuesday bout 6pm (24hrs) later after the car sat outside all day for the clear to harden up.. wet sanded it again with a ultra fine scuff pad and 3m rubbing compound it.. and BAM! brand new looking hood..

Looks good but it wont last (ive done a few evo wings), the paint will turn right to garbage again if it doesnt have some kind of UV protection in it. But if you dont mind doing it once a year then it looks good!

Itll last.. i have five coats of clear on the hood, not paint. i just have to keep up with a good wax on the hood at least once a month. That will keep it from oxidizing again.

It doesnt matter how many coats you put on cf, if the clear doesnt have uv protection itll happen well within a year again.

Its all about maintenance with keeping up with your car. Keeping WAX on your car keeps the UV from oxidizing your paint and clear. May have happened to you, paint and forget about it and hope its gonna last without proper up keep. Look at stock cars, they dont have a UV protection in all the paint because when people dont mind there cars it starts to oxidize. Maintenace.....

Maintanance isnt going to help with poor quality products is what im saying. Wax wears off and can only do so much; if the paint cant provide uv protection to its underlaying suface its not going to last; its as simple as that.

FTW 99% of cars do have uv protection in the clear, thats why older cars (mostly red) do not have a clear coat and thats why they fade/oxidize.

anyway post some pictures in a year from now and we will see

Re: Re-cleared Carbon fiber! 56k NO WAY!

Simple,
Keep it in the garage/shade at all times
Keep it clean, Wash every week or so, detail every month.

Will last more than 5 years.

Yes leave it in the garage, but most of us work unless you have a parking garage. Washing has no impact unless the dirt is actually blocking the uv light from getting through.

No need for the op to get offended all I said was it looks good for now.

In that case isn't there some kinda UV blocking clear spray that can go on top or should be used next time or by me if i try to do this?
