nice car man, for the age the paint its in great condition. hey what engine is it
it looks like a d-series, i like the d-series if you know how to mod it, it has a lot of potential. i also have the same muffler in my 96 cx and it sounds really nice

Clean hatchback. Welcome to the forum!
My only advice is to cut that cold air intake so that it is up higher. I had one just like that in my car that hydrolocked the first engine and blew a head gasket in the current block. It can suck up water like a straw and cause major damage when driving through puddles!

My car had the full AEM cold air intake, but it had the water shield on it. I still didn't feel safe with it because my job's industrial park floods when it rains heavily. I ended up getting a short ram intake. It seems to work better for daily driving....
I've always personally thought the Apexi WS2 looked and sounded nice. I don't know if that's what you have though, but the videos I've seen with it on the EM1s, it looks damn near like a stock exhaust.

yea its the d15b8 if im not mistaken.. i havent taken it for a real ride yet though cuz i dont have my plates yet, so i dont know of its potential :P the cold air intake is what im kinda worried about too.. it goes down under the bumper, but i cant even see the filter! and i dont know how to take it out cuz it wont fit through the hole that the pipe is going through.. i would like a short ram air but im worried about the winter with those. i have heard that short rams do not perform well in the winter... correct me if im wrong though. keep in mind i live in ottawa, ontario lol

, and last week we had rain for 5 days straight and my friends that have cold air intake they weren't able to drive because of the intake absorbing water. i have a short ram intake and i haven't had any problems. this is a picture of my engine with my intakegood luck man

Re: New member+first civic(with pics)
My old intake went down into the bumper. IIRC, I took the first half off(the part going to the TB). Removed the water shield and the 2 aluminum ring clip things. Then I had to get the part off you were talking about. I had to mess with the plastic piece in front of the passenger side tire. I don't remember exactly what I did. I think I just pushed it in and then pushed it to the side and pulled the plastic. Then I just pulled the filter and second half of the intake out. Good luck. I really like the short ram though. It's cheaper than an OEM filter and box replacement.

The other guys gave you a great set of instructions on how to remove the valve cover, but if you're still having trouble go pick up a service manual. The service manual will walk you through just about any repair you ever need to do, i use the diys on here for a lot of things, but i also always have the service manual with me when i'm working on my car.

Just out of curiosity and I don't wanna hijack the thread, but why do so many people prefer the B-Series engines over the D-Series? I'm still fairly new to Hondas in general.

Well for one,it's stronger.Over in Japan,the Civic Type R EK9 uses a B16B I4 engine.And the Integra Type R DC2 uses a B18C3.Or you can think of it this way,what's a better score on a test,a B or a D?

You should be able to just detach the filter part from in front of the tire, cut the tube with a sawzall and slide the filter on, just don't cut too much!
Re: New member+first civic(with pics)
You don't really need a torque wrench, but it's a good investment. And you should only need it when putting the bolts back on. What size socket did you use?

Re: New member+first civic(with pics)
yeah thats what i mean.. when i put them back in. and i believe they were 10mm. i was tightening the bolts up and then all of a sudden they got loose. happened with all 4 bolts. now it feels like the engine doesnt rev as high and quickly and also when i take the dipstick out the oil goes almost all the way up the stick. wasnt like that before...
