Header Help
Hey you guys, I have an '03 Civic EX (Auto not by choice
) and I'm looking to get the EVO 2 but I'm looking for opinions on headers. I was looking at these DC Sports Racing Headers on Dezod and ProCivic but I don't know, I haven't done much searching. But I'm getting close money wise to be able to buy the stuff. Anyone have any recommendations for headers and or problems you've had with ones you've purchased.
Thanks

Re: Headers Help
before anything i think you might get flamed for saying headers...
... id personally recommend HP header for a noticeable gain as compared to DC sports, but it is not CARB legal, if that effects you out in New Jersey

Re: Header Help
i've got the dc sports header with the evo2 and i really like it. when i first put my evo2 system on i actually didn't like the way it sounded, but after i put about 5000 miles on it the exhaust sounds great. i guess the system needed some break in time
Re: Header Help
^^ are u selling them..if u are then i wont state my opinion on them..
the hp header i herd u have to shave some of ur sub frame off...and the dc sports race header ive herd nothing but good things.

Re: Header Help
IMO, headers dont do much for our cars......I've read many threads on here about how they lose low end torque and then dont gain anything close to what they lost on the top end....just stick with the intake/exhaust and save up for a turbo kit....but thats just me
Re: Header Help
there is a noticeable difference in the top end with a new header, but you do lose low end. if you are interested in an hp header with the high flow cat, i am looking to sell mine. i had it on my car with the evo2 and i loved it, it didn't change the exhaust note much, it just got a little deeper. let me know if you are interested, i still have everything it came with and it was only on my car for around 800 miles.

Re: Header Help
Alright, you guys are killing me...
Our car has ONE headER, a V8 would have headERS- exhaust ports on both sides- making it two pieces, yeilding the S on the end of the word header.
From what I've heard, the DC header isnt much better than stock. Its more or less the same size, and same design, just differnt material- which isnt much of anything to brag about, none the less spend 250+ clams on.
There are a million posts on the dif headers for our car, and peoples opinion about them. Search around a little and you'll find bunches of information.

Re: Header Help
ok, listen up people. the DC Sports Shorty header is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy different than the DC Sports RACE header. the diameter of the piping is way bigger and the runners are longer, etc.
i'm sick of hearing people saying that DC Sports headers are crap, when in fact the RACE header makes good power.
i believe the original poster said he was going to get the race one anyways, and i think that its a good choice. Brand new that thing goes for about $400+, but if you search the for sale forums, there are a few people selling it for about $200. new is as good as used.

Re: Header Help
I have the Megan Race HEADER and have had no problems and the fitment is great and saw minimal gains since our D17 does not respond to bolt ons. But still for 125 bucks off of ebay U cant beat it!!

and also, for a couple posts behind mine...Megan doesnt make a race header for the d17.
and also, Kamikaze does make an EX version of its header.

Re: Header Help
Meh, I've got the shorty and have been happy with it. It got rid of the odd little stutter from 6700(ish) to redline. I know its not much of an RPM band to be concerned about, but it makes a difference to me.
Couldn't give you an opinion about any other header as I've never owned or driven a 7th gen with one. I like my DC shorty, but I didn't expect much out it and I got for $70.

Cerami-coat is fine after almost 2 years in England. Can't get much more humid than that, but that's not the "stainless" version either though.

Re: Header Help
Kevbotron, thanks!
Good point Da1lyDr1ver, thanks for pointing that out- I missed that.
I'm still up in the air about headers for our car. When I dynod my car, and so did another member on here who had the HP header- I had 7 more torque than he did using the stock header.. Which I was really suprised about. Same mods- intake, exhaust... and I believe he was vtec, and I am not. A few variables, but something to think about.

Re: Header Help
you don't need to worry about the check engine light since you have an ex though. my hp race header came with a sim box as well, but i didn't need, the CEL went away after a few resets. the top end gains that you get with an after market header are noticeable thought, my car definitely felt a lot different when i had the header on. PM me if you think you are interested in the header i have.
Re: Header Help
Holy ****, thanks guys. Yeah I was looking at the DC RAAACEE Header. Then I'll buy my EVO 2. And to the person who said save up and just buy a turbo. Thats already in the process also.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Re: Header Help
yea good choice. i have right now the obx 4-1 shorty header and i felt no top end gain and a decent loss in low end power so right now..im just in a dissapointment with either..headers in general or our motors. once i get enough mula im gona get the race header since it seems to have the best effects overall.
um...did anybody else know anything about having to shave the subframe for the hp header and cat? i was reading and if u dont do that ull have an annoying rattle sound... other than that i would like to get the hp package but..i dont think i wana be shaving any of my frame off.

Re: Header Help
^ turbo needs a differing exhaust manifold anyways, best bet would be to hold out and save up if your anywhere near having anything saved up.
Re: Header Help
with the hp header, there is a slight issue with clearance on the subframe, but it is easily fixed. when i first installed the header and the evo2, there was a loud rattle under the passenger side of the car, but i was able to get it fixed at an exhaust shop for really cheap (like $20). they just tweaked the piping on the exhaust a little, but it reduced the "rattle" from the header. if you are thinking about the header, i wouldn't worry about the rattle, like i said, it is easily fixed - i can understand being nervous about cutting the subframe because i was, so i found another solution that didn't have me shaving my car. overall it is a good header, and for sure worth the money.
