To Vtec or not to Vtec...
To Vtec or not to Vtec...
So I was so looking forward to having my EX head swap this month but my local shop just raised the price for the install from 590 to 800, without the tuning! So unless somebody who lives in Jacksonville that knows how to swap my EX head wants to help install it I am parting out with my Vafc 2. I bought it on Ebay and the orginal owner did not even install it on his car. There are no scratches or dents and I have all the wires and the stand. I"m looking for somewhere around 180. PM if anybody is interested. KInda of a bummer, I really wanted to feel Vtec too

head swap is easy dude. just get the online manual and follow the directions. the hardest part is actually just pulling the head off cuz its pretty heavy lol. if you follow the directions and have the right tools it should be a 2 day job at maximum.

its not easy lol. and there are quite a few places where you will get stuck so have a friend ready to help or drive you to the store. and honestly i dont think its even worth it for the swap. youre talking about an almost nonexistant gain. youre gonna drive it after they finish and say oh, is that all it does? get i/h/e and tune that, youll prolly feel the same dif without all the wasted $

i think you would notice a bigger gain if you upgraded the terribly restrictive exhaust and intake system.

I already have I/H/E
and yea the gains were really noticable. I just figured with an EX head there would be a ton more options open for me to mod. But if my shop wants almost a thousand dollars just for install and tuning its not worth it. I'll just put that money aside for a nitrous kit hehe

Re: To Vtec or not to Vtec...
well i took my head off and put it back on, and it wasnt that difficult.
^^ that is right technically but the vtec head opens the doors to many other things such as cams etc while with the lx head you cant. an ex head with a more agressive vtec lobe and boost = good.

Yea I wasn't planning to boost my civic. Thats way too much money I want to invest in our motors. I just wanted to have my vtec and aftermarket cams. I'd try to install the head myself, but all the springs and cam is not set up since I get the head rebuilt. I don't wanna take that chance. So any takers on my Vafc?
