Civic is gone...06 Scion hello
CAR AND DRIVER
Against its natural rivals, the tC is equally competitive. To 60, it is quicker than the Civic Si (8.0) and the Mini Cooper (8.3). It's even with the Mazda 3 s and just 0.4 slower than the supercharged Cooper S, which is the only one of the group to outgun the tC to the quarter-mile, nipping it by 0.2 second. And remember, the blown Mini starts at $20,449.
It says it could beat the base model Acura RSX....i guess it is a little faster

My friend bought a tC when it first came out. We went and test drove it and it was nice and peppy.
There is one flaw that I see in the tC, and that's the lag from the gas pedal because acceleration is done by the computer instead of directly linked to the throttle (throttle by wire). You don't notice it much on the upshift, but on the downshit it becames VERY apparent. I notice a lot of people don't downshift properly anyways, but if you are wondering what I'm talking about try bliping your gas pedal when you engage the clutch and downshift to a lower gear (try to rev match it). There is a significat delay, but I found if you pre-blip so when you engage the clutch the RPM will jump up to where you want to rev match, then you can get perfect rev match downshifts. It takes a bit of practice, but once you master it, it's all good.
Also for you Honda lovers, don't be mad this guy upgraded. The tC is a great car. I guess he could have gotten a RSX-S, but that probably costs more. And I cant believe the tC has gotten over $20,000. Whent they frist came out they were flying out of the dealership for $18,000 and less (at least that's what my friend paid). Grats on the car and definately look into that TRD supercharger that is TOTALLY covered by Toyota.

Yeah, I test drove a tC, and I noticed that throttle lag you're talking about... I blipped the throttle on a downshift, but due to the lag, the car lurched, and I felt like an idiot. Awesome car, though. I think it did exactly what Toyota wanted it to, being carve out a chunk of the sport compact market.
I'd tap that.
I'd tap that.

Yeah, our car is the red-headed stepchild of the Honda tuning family.
I dunno, though, it looks like Honda is staging a comeback. They've got the Si and Si sedan for the US market, and there's even a Type-R slated for overseas. We could see some pretty good competition in the same market, and that'll end well for everybody. Basic economics as applied to the sport compact market.
I bet (read: hope) Nissan has something up their sleeves, they've pretty much dropped off the radar as of late. If I were on their marketing board, I'd try to use that to my advantage, like just out of the blue bust out a RWD 200whp coupe based on the S-chassis (just for old-time's sake) for under $20,000. That'd earn them some solid respect for sure.
But whatever. If only people besides Dezod cared about our cars... Que sera sera.

hondas stepping late in the game with turbo's but i do hope they continue to produce cars with turbos or do wat toyota did and have an option for some kind of Forced Induction. i hope honda gets a better performance partner instead of their cheesy HFP **** and go like wat Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, and etc; with their performance upgrade packages. sorry if some of this isnt making much sense just on some pills for my cold.
i wish i did get a TC but at the same time dont b.c one its a much more powerful and promising car to work on but at the same time the built quality of the car isnt that great especially the interior. o well i still wouldnt have mind the TC b.c it could support a supercharger with full warranty from toyota, which i have to say is freaking sweet.

I would post the link but I don't have 15 posts yet.

also, stock 5 speed tC is capable of a mid to high 15 second 1/4 mile.

Honestly, I had more fun driving around in my slightly modded Civic than my stock tC. Yeah, Civic was slower on the straights, but power/torque is only part of the equation in having fun.

^^^ it's actually a big step since Honda hasnt put a turbo into a production car since who knows when or if ever. To really step into the tuner aftermarket, they need to put that motor into a smaller/sportier chassis. But I'm sure some of the mainstream tuners will toy with that motor even if it is in a small SUV.

yeah true, i've heard they've always been N/A. never had a FI car before. but i still don't consider it a step into the tuner market until it's been put in an affordable car. the 32k rdx definetly isn't exactly affordable as a tuner car. plus when you consider the SUV aspect it practically throws it into the garbage. i get where you're coming from, but i just don't expect to see a FI tuner car for a while.
