Question Quick question about 01-02 civic gauge clusters

I own a 05' VP and am looking to swap out my gauge cluster with an 01-02 LX cluster. I understand that the LX is a direct plug-n-play. My question is...i'm on ebay looking to place a bid on a cluster. The seller has no idea if it's an LX or EX . How can you tell the difference between both? The two models look the same. If it were an EX....would it need to be rewired to be compatible with my car?

To my understanding going from a 01/02 > 03+ (ie four circles to three ringed) cluster is not a direct plug-n-play. There is some rewiring issues to deal with. So I can only assume you'd have to do some rewiring to do the reverse...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it

all COUPES are orange backlit for 01-02. Sedans are green.

VP/DX's are all built like 01-02's, even an 05 vp would have to rewire the plugs for the 05 lx/ex clusters.

to answer the original question...the only difference is the ABS light. If it is indeed an EX cluster, the ABS light will come on. The easy solution to this is peeling back the gauge face and covering the bulb with black electrical tape. The light will not shine through.

to add to the color difference, the EX will have an ABS light that will stay on cause your car doesn't have anti lock brakes. you can open it and put electrical tape behind the icon.

Thanks for the heads up guys.
Info was very helpful.
I'm gonna go ahead and place a bid and win this auction.
I can't wait to get the cluster installed.
I'm in need of some RPM's.
Have a "Happy Turkey Day Guys!"
