LOL, you'll never guess what I just did...
I got tired of my magnaflows exhausts fitment issues already, and the mid pipe and the part with the resonator just got ripped off in an unpaved parking lot yesterday. So Today I figured I would fix it.
But last night I noticed an increase in power, and sound with the mid pipe open, I guess making the exhaust less restrictive. It sounded like an apexi n1 times 2. Not tooo bad, but loud as ****.
So Today I reconnected the mid pipe and resonator and then I'm looking at it, and thinking... hmm, how can I get that added power, but less sound. So I'm thinking if I take off the rear section it should work.
So I did, I took off my muffler and wow is my car responsive now. If you don't beleive me try it. I mean not as responsive as when It was cut off before the resonator, but its better then with the muffler.
Don't think you can be smart and gain more power with removing the dp, and mid pipe or anything like that. Cause the exhaust needs some back pressure. And I guess that pipe gave it just enough, with a good flow as well.
I'm sure I'll run into a problem with a cop sooner or later, and it does get annoying driving around cause it drones, but I'm game for performance! Plus if I get a fix it ticket, I'll tell them it fell off, and then just slide it back together the next day.
EDIT: Forgot to mention other mods, AEM v2 intake, dc header.
sorry for the wall-o-text/useless info, lol.

Well... I know local cops won't bother me, but neighboring city cops may... Who knows. I drive mostly at night, so maybe they won't notice.

i knew a guy that had an older model supra who ripped off the exhaust up to the cat converter (which he left on i believe)....never fumed up the car and sounded incredible, you could never tell the difference, and plus his car responded much better with seemingly better acceleration....so i wouldnt see a problem with it plus its free..

LOL I just had to do a clearance issue for my exhaust and sway setup. I did the same thing I left the mid pipe open and started it. And hell ya it was loud as hell. I was too chicken to drive it just for the fact I would get a ticket for sure. But what I thought was making a straight pipe that goes out the back. I will prolly leave it alone I have enough loud cars.
Its not quite the same as going headerless, because you've still got that long length of pipe there. Headerless engines, at least on a stock car, I think will stall flat out, or have problems holding an idle at the very least.
I can't even begin to imagine how loud your car must be w. no muffler at all.

but you have no muffler at all. so if a cop stopped you he would see nothing out the back of your car? would you get the same response from a straight pipe from where you muffler is suppose to be to the back of the car? if so i would have a pipe made up with a exhaust tip on it. this way it looks like its suppose to be like that. or maybe hollow out a muffler so it looks right if they look under the car. i dunno tryin to think of ways around it.
