8 hours later....

I cleaned up my engine bay this afternoon (and night). I've done so many quick installs over time that it just started to look like a disaster in there, so I decided to clean my **** up. Not that I care what it looks like, but sooner or later I'm gonna either bust something expensive, pull a wire off, or something else I don't care to think about.
Anyways... here goes.
This is my disaster...

First thing I did is shorten the lines going to and from the oil cooler. Those would be the big stainless lines running all over the place. They're also too long down below.

So I shortened the lines to the cooler, reversed the direction of flow through the cooler by swapping the inlet and outlet hoses and also rerouted the return hose under the headlight since it was a shorter distance than through the bumper and up the fender.

(yes thats my oil filter, its from a Ford Truck).

Then I shortened the feed and return hoses and tucked them neatly along the wheel well so they were out of the way. I shortened the positive battery cable (from the trunk) and reconnected it. It used to be routed around the front of the airbox before connecting to the charge harness (you can see the red cable in the before picture), now its just goes straight into it. I lost about 16" of cable length in the process. I also covered it with wire loom so its not rediculously obvious.

Because I don't like wires being near hot things (like 200 deg. oil lines), I thermal wrapped the wiring in the corner of the engine bay to protect them from the oil lines. Also wrapped the clutch line.

Up under the bumper I padded the bumper and the line with thermal tape, then coated the underside of the headlight with more thermal insulation because melted headlights would just suck.

While I'm making the engine bay look like a space ship, lets do fuel lines and rewrap the intake to fix some of the spots that got a little nasty from the last time I wrapped it.

Finished product... much better.

A little NASCAR trick... because the oil actually runs too cool on the street (but just right on the track). I taped off about 80% of the cooling grid. Now it runs at acceptable temps on the street.

.... and I bet a bunch of you thought I spent 8 hours cleaning the outside of the car...

I don't want to cut the wire in case I ever have to put the battery back in there, and while I was doing this, I didn't have any 8 ga. wire to make a new transmission ground wire (grounds to car in the center of the wire, one side was the battery, the other is the trans. bracket). Its on the list.

What is it with us people who tidy up the engine and like our engine bays clean. This is a disease which there is no cure. Good job Boilermaker1.
