Carputer Done!!..pics

Finally got the Carputer done, its working awesome. System goes into hibernate when I turn the ignition off and then comes out of hibernation when I turn the ignition on. So I never have to worry about shutting the system down. Anyways, here are a few pics of the progress. I am still trying to get the Slimline DvD to fit properly. And my car was pretty dirty when these pics were snapped. I will post more pix when I get the panels back on and everything fits properly. Enjoy!
-----------------------------------------
1. I needed to relocate the HeadUnit and the A/C controls

2. Molded screen in the console, the thin rectangle opening on the bottom is where the slimline DvD optical drive is going.

3. This is the M1-Atx 90watt Power Supply that has the shutdown and startup controller biult in.

4. Here is the Via Epia m10000 motherboard that I had to cram in there. I had to dremel out some more metal so it would fit vertical in the dash and the m1-atx is behind the board.

5. More shots of the Motherboard getting wired.

6. Testing system.

7. The hard drive, extra usb ports and power button were overlowed into the glovebox.

8. Here is the system up and giong. The slimline DvD player fits correctly now and I will be updating some pix on the flush fit soon.

9. Screenshot @ night

10. Thumbpad that is used as the keyboard

I love it! Only thing I don't get is... How do you wire it up to a screen?

Anyways... Instead of having all parts in the dash, I'd prob do thing with a pc case or something.. one of them tiny frag cube things.

What are you gonna do in the winter, when you have the heat on? Or in the summer, when its broiling temps in your car and you want to start up the computer. You better take cooling into consideration. Install some fans. You don't want dead air sitting in there.

I wired the screen into one of the power connectors, for example. One goes to the hard drive and the other goes to the screen since the screen runs off 12volts and will shut down automatically when the system goes into hibernate. As far as cooling and heating goes. I drilled a few small holes in my ducts so when i turn my air on, it also blows inside my dash. And the screen is VGA touchscreen so no need for a mouse.

thx for the input........yes the system will hibernate when I turn the ignition off, the M1-Atx Power supply will automatically shut down if the battery drops below 11v for more than 1 minute. So you never have to worry about a dead battery.

how'd you mount the hdd so the vibrations from the road doesn't cause the arm to hit the discs?

You drilled holes in your vents? What about in the winter when it gets cold and you have to turn the heater on? What then?

hmm.... nvm I assume San Marcos is a hot climate that requires A/C.
