CAI.. gave me more power...
CAI.. gave me more power...
I dont see why everyone bashes on bolt ons. I just installed my CAI today and I can tell a difference in acceleration, especially in high rpms. I love it and sounds awesome... and it definitely gives me better acceleration than i had before with just dc headers
people rip it cause its not worth the money if there purly into gaining hp. old b16s and stuff would get like 20-30 hp with bolt ons and cam/ecu tuning. d17 might get 10hp from full bolt ons, cam tuning does nothing unless you get a completly new cam, and obd2 sucks *** cause we either have to get a expensive *** full ecu/piggyback to tune. and dont forget the assy fuel delivery system. sohc gains from turbo, nothing else... and they handle it like a champ.
but, i love my bolt ons.... i dont care what the numbers are i feel some gain, and it revs free and gets better gas milage, not to mention i/h/e sounds great, which makes you want to drive it, and thats realy what its all about.

Spending over $200 on a new CAI to gain sound and a minimal amount of hp just doesn't work for everyone.
I/H/E is close to $1000 and you don't really gain any power.
No one wants to spend $1000 on sound and bragging rights about how they have Greddy this and AEM that.
That's why we recommend going the swap or turbo route.

i spent less than 400 bucks all together on I/H/E .... and i bet 10 bucks i have better gains with my $90 aem short ram / $100 kamikazi header / $100 custom 2.5 pipe , $20 resonator, $60 muffler; than anyone with a cai, dc/hp header, and some big catback system. the intake is heat sheilded, headers and pipe are wrapped. people pay way to much cause they dont read in to what they buy. almost all the cat back systems are heavy, waaaaay oversized, and sound like rice can ***, cai loose way to much low end to be worth it. and that "crappy" 100 dollar header that everyone bashes on, is running 3 years strong and has no rust, and no leaks. and if it breaks ill buy another one for 100 bucks and ill still laugh cause its still less than 1 overpriced hp/dc header. bahahahahaha
well said i love intake header and exhaust and high flow cat, i got them all you should race a stock civic and see how many car lenghts you get its well worth it, i got a extra high flow cat downpipe for sale the L pipe between header and catback for sale $80 shipped, and im in miami, florida
swap or turbo?
not all of us can go that route of swapping and turboing. bolt ons are for us that have only a few extra bucks to spend and still need everyday driver. so there is two ways to look at it. Plus id rather have mine run for a long time than run fast times. CAI and magnaflow catback exhaust just sounds nice. if i wanted something fast i wouldve saved longer and gotten something besides a vic, u know?

You'll notice everyone mentions the same thing...'it sounds nice'
Of course it sounds nice but for the price you pay you don't gain much power.
I'm talking about power, not sound.
If its sound you guys are going after, then I can't argue.
But in terms of power gains, its clearly not the best bang for the buck.
Our engines just plain suck unless you turbo or swap (for straight line racing).
For track/auto-x, its another story.

cam just came out last week, nobody has it. as for ecu tuning, there aren't really any good ecus out. aem ems is very overpriced imo.
with i/h/e/c/ecu/hi comp pistons/valve springs/retainers/rods ... I suspect there is quite a lot of power to be had. something about an 8000 rpm d17 sounds good though.
then again, with all that money, you could afford a k20

It does suck not having a daily driver when the cars busted. But I have a backup suv anyways to drive. I used to have a CAI, than a SRI, and exhaust. It sounded like rice. intake alone sounds good, but nothing more, or it sounds ricey and loud. I like a know loooooow deep sound, thats clean sounding. I did enjoy those mdos though, dont get me wrong, they are better than nothing. I did eventually take my CAI, and put my stock airbox back on. I gained a nice low end, and high end. I than bought an ebay intake, and put that on. Much better gains than an expensive cai (first one i used), and the stock airbox. still nothing to make a difference in a race.
Vic's almost done... thats sorta depressing...

^^^now I got his ebay intake, lol, sounds mean!
but yea, his short ram is nice because it is like a good 1/2 inch bigger than the CAI I had b4 this short ram, so I also noticed a diffrence for the better w/ this intake... just dont use the filter that comes w/ it... spend a little cash and get a good filter... or luck out and have a good filter laying around from your last car like me

And any $60 muffler you buy is most likely going to give you the "rice can ***" effect. Dont be so discriptive with your mod list. it sounds like you went on ebay and bought a bunch or garbage to cut and hack onto a perfectly nice car... other than that, i agree with the kamikaze header statement
i said almost all of em.. the magnaflow is nice, but alot of them are 2.75 which i wouldnt run that high unless i was boosting over 10psi. and yea aluminized steel will rust... but i would never keep the same car for more than a few years at the most so why do i care? the only other reason to use thick stainless is to reduce heat dissipation, and thats why i wrapped my exhaust. the only part on my car from ebay is the header, and its great, the intake is AEM, and the pipes were all done buy a kickass muffler shop that does lots of race cars for the local track. and as for the exhaust note, but imho i have never ever heard another 4 cyl car with just boltons that sounds as good in my life. its stock but like 20 db higher with a singing bass note, absolutly 0 raspynes or popping ... comperable to the sound of like a stock wrx/sti or evo, if youve heard those.
sorry to but in guys but where did u get the kamikaze header for 100 bucks...i found it for 240 on the internet...also what is the overall verdict on the ebay intake. I dont plan on boosting or swapping because this car takes me back and forth from jersey to pa every week. thanks for the responses ahead of time.

i don't understand how people with 7thgens think they get power from an i/h/e?!?! when the 7thgen came out, dc sports dyno'd one with their i/h/e and only gained 3 hp and 2.4 ld/ft torque! what a waste of money! also, the sound of an exhaust on our cars sounds horrible in my opinion. like a bunch of little bumblebees flyin around. i don't see how people like that noise. i do however, like the sound we get from an intake and header which is why i chose these two bolt-ons. i believe the best power improvement for the money is a 50 shot of nos and a beefed up clutch.
yea...i guess i could spray....but my car is warrant'd to 100,000 miles....any nitrous kit will surely void this correct? i mean if i just have a short ram and something happens i will just put the stock airbox back on, but if they see nitrous lines and hardware they are gonna tell me to go take a hike. Thanks 4 the advice tho...later btw i just ordered this shortram....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634 anybody got this one???
