slwoing down

is it bad for the auto tranny if you throw it into neutral while slowing down at stop lights & or stop signs?

Its like shifting out of gear in a stick...no big deal as long as you dont jam it into gear at high RPMs. Downshifting into D3 D2 would have helped more and is essentially the same as downshifting a manual. Just make sure your at a sutable speed for those gears and your fine.

it actually saves gas a little. it doesnt harm the car at all. i keep it nuetral when slowing down or stopped at a light. less rpms = more gas milage, so in nuetral u dont use any rpms.

actually this was in the paper about a month ago. They had auto makers explain the differences, etc between two auto cars. One that put the car in neutral on slopes, stoplights, etc. One that always kept the car in gear.

Automakers found that the car put in neutral faced more trasmission problems later, and actually had worse gas milage every fillup compared to the one that left the car in gear.

Don't quote me, but they said when the RPMs are misleading when your car is put into neutral, and that it actually is higher than what the tach.

Then it said the car will actually not use gas as effiecently as when the car would be engaged constantly in a gear. They compared it to a car being driven on cruise control. The less the tranny goes up and down, the better.

So it's actually better to be at 3k constantly then be at 3k, then 1k, then 3k, then 1k, etc. Every test proved it. And it showed significantly more wear on the transmission.

So I wouldn't do it if I were you.

when the car is stopped at the stop sign why would you have the car on gear fo like 50 seconds which is what a regular red light lasts for?
you should put it to neutral whn you are stopped that way it doesnt wear the clutch cylinders or any other things.
also when you are slowing down if you wanna save gas dont downshift just put it into neutral and brake like you would with an auto car

edit:sorry i didnt read well you had an auto man im sleepy i need to go to sleep disregard my post.

when you stomp on the brakes from any gear higher than 2, the auto tranny SHOULD downshift for you. it's the same tactic that standard drivers use called heel-toe. downshift the car, slow down quicker.

an added benefit to this would be acceleration from a lower gear at high rpm is quicker (on honda's, at least) than acceleration from higher gear at low rpm.

They gave it the "d" for a reason, if it were better for the car, they would have told you when you bought it to put it in neutral.

ITs better for ur gas, its Worse for ur brakes because u dont have an extra force slowing ur car down (ur engine)

if it was better to have the car go in neutral when comming to a stop, i think the honda engineers would have designed the transmission TO DO SO AUTOMATICALLY.
