Question Car Service Story

So i'm getting my car serviced for its 60,000 miles today. Right so its a major maintence. Some of it I could have done myself, but not, so i brought it in so they could do everything anyways. Well $319 roughly for the major service. Well, guess what they call me like 2 hours after I drop it off and tell.... "after a road test before working on the car, the technician found that the throttle body was sticking. [cause apprently from the gas we put in our cars.] Could this have been from CAI?

If not fixed it could lead to a sticking gas pedal. ****! Anyway, they also asked if I wanted my brakes to be flushed. Done every 30,000 miles. so i said sure, cause i couldn't remember, if it had been done. grand total? $ 539.00 as of now. I pick up by baby this afternoon. So can this happen to the throttle body? ? Is isn't always nice to pay more money than expected. I had a feeling something like this would happen.

-The end

I dont know why anyone is taking there cars into the dealer for mainatnence anyway. I mean the required maintancence. It is just a way for the dealer to make some money off you. I am not sure about the throttle body deal, but you should have driven it around and see if you noticed anything because the dealer could have just told you some BS to get more money.

Yeah but how are you supposed to know if they're ripping you off or if the car actually needed the service done. Sure some people might be able to do all the work themselves, but not all of us have the know how or the time and tools. So what happens if you dont get the honda maitenance, wont that f up the warranty?

No it wont *** up the warranty. I have never done any of my scheduled maintenance, and I had problems awhile back with my tranny and my warranty covered it. And besides my car is still running strong at 73k and I have never done scheduled maintance. I only replace parts when they go bad or wear out. Only things I have replaced on average are the oil, tranny fluid, and coolant because those are vital on the car. Other things can go for awhile without being checked.

Well if you are unsure about the work, take it to another shop and get there opinion. ALot of times, work isnt even needed, shops just want to make a few extra bucks.

Same here, I just change my fluids, brakes and thats about it. If a belt is worn, ill change it, timing belt is a different story. Never have honda do all that crap.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm sorry but you should know better. I'm not a mechanic and I could've done most of that stuff for you. Well live and learn I guess. Go to any auto store, buy some TB cleaner, and spray alot on a cloth. Then wipe all around and in the TB. Also spray a little at the two hinges of the throttle plate. Problem solved, and lose the CAI. All that oil on the filter started building up on the TB.

I didn't take it to the dealership. And the shop told me that the TB service is something that needs to be cleaned up every 30,000 miles.

Use common sense people. Just because Honda says oil change every 10k miles and tranny fluid every 30k, doesn't mean that's the best thing to do. My TB was filthy when I checked it below 20k miles. If you're a complete noob at taking simple stuff apart, the service manual will help alot. But most of the stuff that needs to be done can be found on this site.
