Fully Open Exhaust Good or Bad?
Fully Open Exhaust Good or Bad?
I need to know if i open my exhaust up will it degrade my performance. I have an OBX Stainless Steel 4 - 1 Header that goes into the down pipe to the cat and the straight back to the Bomz Evo Spec Muffler. I cut the resonator off and welded a straight piece of pipe in its place. I want to buy the Megan Racing Cat but I'm afraid that with little to no backpressure I will encounter problems. Emissions don't concern me cause Arkansas doesn't do state inspections. What do i do?

Well people haven't had any problems, plus it is a 7thgen, it's not like i/h/e help at all for us. Also for future non-flaming purposes use the SEARCH button at the top of the page it will stop a$$holes like me from flaming you about posting something that has been talked about a gazzillion times.

oh and I am about to run without a cat anyways. It won't hurt. Back pressure has more to do with the actual piping than it does the cat and resonator.

You didn't even read his post did you? It has nothing to do with taking off the muffler.

the only problem is that you will not have any low end torque...
right now i got the hp header and a high flow cat.... and 2.25 mendrel bent piping... i took off my exaust and bolted up my stock exaust and i can feel my low end so much better, it also feels better when i accerate... for some weird reason... o yea.. it is soo much quiter...

I dynoed my 2001 civic EX twice. Once with stock header/cat, 2.25" cat back piping, and a warlock muffler. I put down 113.1hp and 107.0ft/lbs. 20min later, I dynoed exact same setup, only with no muffler(straight pipe from the cat back). I put down 113.5 and 107.3ft/lbs. So, in my case, straight pipe yielded minimal gain, but was with the restriction of the stock header and cat.

At the top menu where it has home, forums, member's rides, diy's, links, parts/reviews, user cp, arcade, search, and quick links. I don't know why, but you have to be logged in to use the search feature.

First of all MASTER u need to reread my post be for flaming n e one. i wasnt saying he wasnt going to have a muffler. i said his car would sound like a weedwhacker without a muffler. and there's no need for you to come into a post and start flamming n e one for n e thing, expecially since you have NOTHING INTELLIGENT TO SAY!!!!!!!!
and lets use some common sence what has more back preassure a resonator/muffler or the piping..
come on now any one and figure that out, and u should watch the advice u give people, because running a n/a motor without enough backpressure will blow it up.
how would u feel if he blew his motor gettin 1 hp cuz u said its better.

you'll put alot of pressure on your rings having no back pressure. im sure there's plenty of people that will agree with me, and its not worth the 1-2 hp gain. ull never feel it and your car will last a whole lot longer.

well it kind of depends if your planning turbo the most critical thing for high boost is free flowing exhaust but if your just going ihe like most people there is no need
Yeah I'm going all motor for now, saving up money for a supercharger if Vortech or Jackson will ever come out with one, so I guess until then I'll leave the Cat on. Thanks for the replies.
