My First Car Accident
So. I just got home from dropping off my sister at her school. I got into an accident where I hit someone's side mirror. I left to get a piece of paper and write something down. I wrote a note and I'll try to find it. It was either a dark camry or a dark taurus. My right sidemirror is gone. The thing is hanging on by two wires. What am I supposed to do? I left my name and my number on this note, do I look for the car and leave it on the windshield? Is there a way to remove the thing? How much does that cost do get fixed? My dad is going to kill me...
I feel so queezy I might
becuase I have an exam today and I wont be home untill 5, so I won't know whats going to happen...

Woahh.... Hmmm anyways. I found the car and the owner next to it. I told her I did it, she was relieved that someone confessed. We're going to talk about whatever is going to happen... I gave her my phone # and name.
It was a motorized leftside (driver's side) mirror from a last gen Camry. How much do those things cost? I also have to replace mine. She said we don't have to get the insurance involved in this...
Help! Suggestions? Should I just go aftermarket? My rights side mirror is gone and the housing for the mirror is hanging on to the two wires... I've always wanted those mirrors with signal lights. Are those cheaper than stock? Is there a way to remove the dangling thing so it doesn't fall off somewhere? My parents are going to kil me....

yeah just get some aftermarket M3 mirrors .... would more than likely be less $$ than going through a honda dealership.
No worries bro your parents will understand. Everyone has accidents

this is minor, **** happens dont worry about it, your mirror might be fie, try to reconect it, it might of just fell out. if not get after market, it would be cheaper.
As for her, hmm, u r probebly looking at 100-200 bucks

yeah, just go aftermarket and save the other one..
i don't think they're gonna really get mad..
i think, ur parents will be pleased by ur sincerity....
maybe, u got to pay the camry's on ur own...haha

Hopefully they'll understand... I'm really worried about the prices. I've only got a couple of hundred in the bank (bye bye tropical vacation), I obviously have to pay for her car first before I spend any money on the black car.
The thing is though, it's my dad's car and he said as long as I'm responsible he'll let me drive it. I'm so damn nervous because I have an exam today and I can't think straight...

^^ The mirror is gone, so is her's. I've got the thing that holds the motor dangling from my right side while her's is still in one relative piece. (the black thing on LX sedans) I looked at it and it's busted. It's only being held up by the wires. Can I disconnect that somehow? I don't want it to fall off or to have loose live wires.

Is my insurance going to go up? It's my fault... I asked her to call my home phone # and I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to do... My parents aren't home yet, I hope she doesn't call yet. I did do well on my Chem exam though.
Bad day bad day bad day...
Can I buy side mirrors one at a time from Honda? Do I just pay her? Sorry for the really stupid sounding questions, but I have no clue what I'm supposed to do or how anything is supposed to happen. I also don't have anyone to ask...

I would just have her go find out how much it will cost and you just pay for it...dont involve the insurance at all, cause it WILL make yours go up

Seriously though, this is a MINOR traffic accident, call a local jumk yard and ask for the mirrors, chances are they will have them. Few hundred at most. Dont bother with insurance. Probably be less than your deductible

I dont know how to say this...but,
suppose you broke your mothers favorite vase(side mirror), and your dad asks who broke it, you say you did(confronting). Then your dad says run to the store and find the exact one and replace it(agreeing not to tell the insurance and just buy a new mirror) asap so your mother(insurance) wont know. You find one, you buy it, you replace it(repairs) BAM! you're clean.
She'll never even know it broke in the first place. Catch my drift?

But you gotta be clever. You cant show a sign of weakness or uneasyness or your parents will talk it outta you and you'll give in. If you can fix your mirrors first, you can put the lady on hold to get her mirror fixed and you wont feel so bad. You'll feel alot better about knowing that the mirror you messed up on your dad's car is fixed and bulletproof.
my first accident was in my dad's F-150 w/ flow masters it was a nice pick up i ran a red light and got t-boned by a mini van damn my dad was pissed off so much i new he was going to hit me we all have a short temper. and the damn cops are *** holes in this town!
It won't go on a record if you dont report to insurance or police. If you pay for her mirrior, type up a peice of paper that states you paid for it in full, have both of you sign it (make sure you have your names typed out under the signatures) and take it to a bank or the town hall and get it notorized (to get it notorized, you both need to sign it in the presence of the public notory). This is to prevent her from taking your money, and then suing you for it again.
BTW, the reason she doesnt want to go through insurance is if her deductible is over the cost of the mirrior and she reports it, then she has to pay. By not doing that, you get to pay for it, as well as yours. I would suggest you both report it, that way you pay for yours, and she pays for hers.

Thanks everyone for the help...
So I explained the accident to my parents, and after a lot of yelling and a lot of explaining, they got everything settled with the lady. They agreed to take it to the insurance because thats what it's there for in the first place.
So if the total damage is less than $500 then I would replace our mirrors with aftermarket ones. Or at least that's the agreement I made with my parents because I feel so guilty, plus insurance isn't going to cover it. I'm going to get the damage estimated 2mrw.

I was thinking about that, but I'm not that evil... I actually left the scene, went home, got something to drink and looked in the mirror before I wrote the note that I was planning on leaving on her car. I did all that while the alarm from her car was blasting.
When I got back she said the cops were already there.... and she was standing there right next to it. That was less than 20 min.
Apparently, you aren't supposed to leave the scene of an accident.

I would try and leave insurance out of it. The less insurance knows about your minor accidents, the better off you are. You're already at a disadvantage for the first six years or so as a driver. (I saw that investigative report about teenage drivers and car insurance on dateline)

well2....
you heart was working at that time.....
seriously, it would be better for you to settle this minor accident w/o the insurance..
they are really goind to kick your *** now...and 6 years from now..
hm, you accident reminds me to drive more carefully now.....

our mirror cost only $90 from majestic...you can probably get it cheaper somewhere else...

you should repair it yourself..
as people here who got the repair manual for the mirror...
do DIY...save youself some money....

Soooo.... I had the car looked at today. The insurance dude said that we're going to pay for it ourselves, because it wasn't over $500. Then when he gave me the report thingy he listed slight scratches as unrelated, when they came from the shattered glass...
It seems like I'll be going aftermarket with this.
