Another RSX-S bites the dust
Well, it's a sad story. My brother went to work this morning and totalled his 03 RSX-S. Thank God he's unhurt. That's ALL that matters.
Last year he bought a blue type S, and paid cash for it. Unfortunately, despite warnings from us, he only had liability insurance. He's 28, and in LA they wanted around $8000 a year for full coverage. Fate and irony has a bad habit of catching up with you. He avoided another person pulling out of a driveway in a construction zone, swerved, hit a curb, spun, and hit a tree. The tree smashed the Car right behind the driver door. The frame is history. I'm sure the side airbag saved his life. Now the only recourse he has is to part out the car and move on. It has less than 10,000 miles on it. What a crying shame.
I'm not sure what we will do just yet, but most likely have to sell it for the motor, JIC's, and the usual parts.
An expensive lesson. If you are lucky enough to buy a car outright, PAY THE INSURANCE.
I have been amazed at how many people here as well as clubRSX have been in accidents lately. It's almost eerie. You just always think it won't happen to you.
This one could have been prevented. If you oversleep, DON'T rush to make up for time. He was tired as well, and falling asleep. I hope someone will read this and think about our hurried lives. No job is worth your life! No job is worth RISKING your life just to be "on time". My brother was very lucky, but it cost him $24,000.
We will be shopping for a second Civic tomorrow.

I don't want the engine. Not in California. It's just not worth the smog hassles for me, and I'm kinda past my racing days. Besides, most likely he'll have to sell it just to help pay for the next car. After we talk a bit, I may put an ad in the for sale forum. This sucks.
But... cars can be replaced. People can't.

^^^^^Thats so true. I don't know how much money he wants to spend, but tell him to get a used 01 civic. He can get an EX for 10,000 or less. Then he can swap the K20 and suspension in it.
. Or if he has the money tell him to get a new 04. That would be bad ***. A 04 civic coupe or sedan with a K20. LOL

Yeah, everyone wants the engine. Even if we part it out, I don't want the seats. It just really hurts.
Here is a pic of it before.

He walked away without so much as a scratch. I'll take some pics later and post them. It looks like we'll part out the car. Neither of us want any of it. Better to start fresh. When I get the OK, I'll take pics and put it in the for sale section, so please don't ask here.
This is just another reminder that life and family are the most important things we can have. He was checked out at the hospital later today, and is barely bruised. Doctor said he'll probably hurt some, though.

wow. look at you guys. what can you expect creating a thread about an rsx in an accident on a civic board. some people can be blood suckers sometimes...
anyways,i hope your brother is fine physically as well as emotionally after everything that's happened. i have been through it myself, but fortunately for your brother, my accident was alot worse. i know you and your family are happy he's alive

I suppose that I post here because my brother upgraded to the RSX, and I bought the Civic. Well, I still have the Civic.
I was so shook up about it yesterday, I just wanted to share the story. Maybe others will read it and think about driving half asleep. No JOB is worth this. Better to be late than potentally dead. He lost his car, LUCKYLY did not get hurt, and his job could not give a rats a$$. They just want to know when he'll be back. All this just because he rushed to be on time.
