Question bad paint job?

(didnt know where to post this, so mods feel free to move if necessary)

Anyway, I was just wondering what would you guys consider a bad paint job? Im having my tsunami front bumper, oem sides, and ww g5 rear lip painted right now but something doesnt seem right. My friends dad was supposed to paint my kit for 500$, but something happend and now he cant. I went to a body shop and they said it would cost 1000$ to paint it. Finally my mom told me theres a body shop right next door to her job, and she asked how much it'd cost, and it was 350$. Well, now these are all very different prices. I went to the place near my moms job today, and dropped off my kit, the owner saw it and everything, and charged me 350$. 350$ is kinda low, and now im scared it might be a horrible paint job, lol. I seen cars hes painted though and he had a lot. They all were shiny and smooth, with no dust particles painted on to the car, or dried paint leaking down. Anyway, he said it should be done by Thursday morning or afternoon. To make a long story short what exactly should I look for in the paint job to find out its a good job or not?

Don't worry about it too much until you pick it up, I'm sure it will come out just fine

yea, wait till you get your car back. compare it to the stock paint. look for color mismatches...orange peel surfaces...paint leaks...etc etc. for $350...if it comes out decent...then you got an excellent deal. i paid WAY too much for my paint (kaminari kit, wing, and m3 mirrors)...and they didn't even wet sand it (left orange peel surface) and dry paint drip marks everywhere...i was so disappointed...i shoulda brought my car back but i was stupid ...

look out for orange peel, if the paint looks like the skin of an orange, that mean they forgot to wetsand the primer or didnt polish the paint after they finished, which easily can be done within 6 hours

it shouldnt be bad, my paint cost me $500 for EBP and it came out perfect. make sure he resands it (if necessary) re-primers it, or primer if it hasnt been primered yet. check 'my ride' to see my pics. ive gotten lots compliments around my area from people sayin the color matches very well.

yo .. one thing i noticed that they do here in NY, when i body shop try's to screw u..... is when they mix the paint!!! they dont add Flex-additive..... this allows the bumper to bend and not have the paint crack.....Make SURE, they did or do it.. u need flex-additive .

yo and just out of curiosity.. why the hell are u painting it now? why not wait til spring? its gonna snow in a month ... ull be plowing snow and cracking then paint ne way.. i recommend not putting it on til april.just my 2 cents.. cause i have a full kit sitting in my room also.

oh and one more thing.. 350 is the right price.. is not a deal price or a rip off...

boiler_room had his kami kit painted and installed for 500... and it came out perfect.. so figure like 400 for paint and 100 for installation.. and that was a hi-priced shop here in suffolk. so 350 is the right price.. not a rip off one.. so i wouldnt be toooo worried.. just a alil.

agreed make sure they spray the peices with flex agent so the paint will conform to the bumper as the bumper flex's and moves while u drive

damn it, im gonna call them up now and ask if they can put on that flex additive. I hope im not too late. I was thinking about waiting till spring to put on my kit and was worried about plowing snow myself, but I compared the tsunami front bumper to the stock, and the tsunami isnt really that much lower. My car isnt dropped, and I dont plan on dropping it anytime soon, so I dont think any snow plowing will occur. Plus, if its a good paint job, the paint should still be perfectly intact while winter rolls around.

EDIT: When does the flex-additive need to be added? Would it cost extra? Does it have to be added during the painting process, or can it be added at end?

^ just have a friend call and ask about the same paint job that you got and add in the "flex-additive" in to the mix and see what price they get. then based on whatever the price you call back and see what they can do. i say this because alot of body shops will be like "naw we'll added it for free" or "we put flex-additive in all of our work" so then when you call back like did you guys put flex-additive in my paint job? and they say "naw thats extra" you got something on them

Yep. I had my Kami kit painted and installed for $600. The paint is an EXACT match to the car. I am so happy with it and from other peoples experiences that I let them install the kit after painting. Hi-Priced Suffolk shops could charge over $1000 to do the whole job.

Best advice: Go to a place that has experience putting body kits on. Most autobody shops don't want to be bothered doing them, and that might reflect in their work. That's why the overcharge.

My place did the whole car in exactly 3 days. No BS either. I get so many compliments because the car just looks like it was meant to have a kit.

PM me if you want the info about the shop.
