damn! painted ac vents...
damn! painted ac vents...
haha. wow, this really sucks *****. i spend a couple hours this afternoon painting my a/c vents silver, and once they're done, i'm all excited and go to put them back in.
now i'm putting the driver side one in, and the paint gets stretched and cracks. anyway, i guess my question here would be, what's an easy/good way to get rid of all the paint so i can start over again? i already got most of the paint off, then used goo-gone to get the primer off, but i'm having trouble getting the spots that are really thin, like the three hollow lines at the top of the vent.
so, to those of you thinking of painting your vents, put them in CAREFULLY.
i'm so dumb. btw, the passenger one came out well
edit: oh yeah, i forgot to say the line that i made this thread for. i was thinking (and this was after i took that picture) "man, this sucks *****." haha, look where the vent is in the picture. ummmm, yeah, it was funny at the time

Sand it down with a # 400 grit paper, primer, paint (vinyl paint).
Before you paint new pieces, go out and get "Auto prep" (Pepboys) this will remove grease, armorall (spelling) and stuff so the paint will stick. Repeat above, and let dry for 24 hrs before trying to install (BE PATIENT YOUNG GRASSHOPPER)
Hope this helps!

and yeah, i had to take it in that position
. i was sitting in the car and i needed a closeup....and it would've been a bother leaning over the e-brake.
plus it's pretty appropriate for the whole "sucks *****" thing
jk

jk they were just the black plastic. a lot of people do it, and i'm a sheep, so i did it, too
btw, i fixed the crack in the paint, so s'all good; no need for advice on redoing it

i know you fixed it, but i painted mine, and when I primed them i used the wrong primer...oops. I just scrubbed it with MEK, and it came right off. It kinda smoothed out the plastic too; took out all those little bumps. Anyway, if you haven't already painted it; paint it, then wait a day or two, then prime it (with matching primer! enamel-enamel, laquer-laquer!) Then wait about a week so that it funny dries. I did that, and I still yet to get a scratch, even with all the crap I have painted. It looks good. Check out my gallery.

?and pshhhh, "south"? hehe, yeah so cal, but it's not like i'm in "the south."
hassoomi, you put those vents in while the paint wasn't completely cured, didn't you?
always, always, always, allow your paint to dry 24 hours in a warm, dry place (preferably dust free) before messing with it!
