My intake is cooler than yours.....
....literally.

I started heat wrapping it today. A 15' roll got me that far, so I guess I need 2 or 3 more. I'm sick of it getting hot enough to burn my hand on race days, so I'm gonna tape it up. Hopefully I can turn this into a little bit of an experiment... I'm gonna see if one of my professors can spot me a couple of temp sensors I can wire in under the tape. That way I can figure out if it makes a difference.

Injen uses aluminum piping, right? It should make a difference. Aluminum takes up heat and gives it off quite easily. The radiated heat from the engine is soaked up by the intake piping and in turn warms up the air entering the intake before it is sucked in to the engine. The air flow is quite high, so the amount of heat soaked up by the air isn't drastic. Still though, a cooler air charge is a cooler air charge. Guess why Honda uses plastic piping? Both in the intake box and resonator and in the intake manifold. It stays cooler since it doesn't absord as much heat as aluminum does. It doesn't need to be wrapped. Anyway, it should make a difference.

They're using the A/C to cool a 30-45 second charge of air as much as 40 degrees. I don't have a link, but they've somehow integrated the airconditioning into the intercooling process. Its not on all the time, but its kinda like having a replenishable nitrous shot.

40 degrees cooler air through a supercharged V8 is going to give you far more than the 10 HP loss from the AC. And I don't think it has to be on... it just runs it through passages in the refrigerant.

2 more rolls on the way.... that still may not be enough, but it should get me to the downturn in the piping where it runs behind the radiator. So the really hot part should be covered.

28' of tape got me this far. This is as far as I can go without taking the intake out. I don't feel like taking it apart right now, and considering I've got it insulated past most of the hot stuff (the hood, the engine and the coolant return line), I'll leave it as is right now. As far as I can tell its working. After driving for a while (getting it hot) then idling at a light, it would lag until air really got moving through it again. Not any more. According to the A/F gauge, I had the computer a little fooled with the cooler air, it was running leaner than usual for about 15 minutes this morning (first time running since I did it), then it settled back to normal. I'm assuming the computer had to make some sort of adjustment. The air temp has been about the same all week.
