Just Bought A 1966 Ford Galaxie 500....
Well, as the topic states, I bought a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 with my father today. We were wanting a classic hot rod project car and finally we have one! I'm so excited about it; it's really hard to put it into words.
It has the original 390 cubic inch V8 with Ford 4100 4 barrel carb and already has a posi-track (sp?) rear-end for some odd (but GREAT) reason. Also, the second owner of the vehicle had these HUGE mufflers installed because she didn't like how loud the car was...we can't wait to take them off and hear that engine breathe through straight pipes.
To get it running, after sitting for 2 years in a garage, we just cleaned the carburetor, replaced the accelerator pump, and replaced the bottom hose to the radiator. However, the brakes are going to use some work, so we dropped it off at the shop so I can work on it Monday morning. All-in-all, it's running great and has nearly flawless exterior and interior.
We are thinking of repainting the car either emerald green or midnight blue and getting brushed aluminum alloy wheels (a good bit wider than the stock wheels). The engine will be removed so the engine bay can be painted and all the trim will be removed before painting. After getting it painted, we will redo the interior completely and find a good way to mount an aftermarket tach (the engine will be turning much higher RPM's than the stock tach is capable of displaying once we are done with the engine) and possibly relocate the shifter. We are aiming to make it a 10-second car and we're not sure where we'll start on the engine. Once we have it on the engine stand, it'll probably be stripped down and have the block reinforced and built for monster power.
I am hoping to buy a digital camera in another week or two so I can take pictures of the car as it progresses...and I will definitely be posting the pictures left and right once I do. Just thought I'd share with you all!

That's a pretty cool car. I have a 1971 Ford Galaxie 500 with the 400 ci engine. The '71's are much more of a "cruising car" though. The tranny feels more like it's geared for towing than take off speed. I still love it though.

Haha we just sold one of those for like 500 bucks, well it was a 66 Custom 500 4 door, same thing as a Galaxie. It was in bad shape though including a blown 390
Me & my dad are currently working on his 1960 Ford Starliner 2dr coupe(try finding one of those anywhere), 390ci w/ police interceptor package & straight pipes, 3 on the tree manual w/ overdrive on the dash, high speed rear end, and yes he has personally had it up to 135-140, hard to tell because the needle was buried in the dash by that time
The thing is a beast, but needs work, which is easier said then done because when you go to auto zone or a junk yards they look at you like your on crack when you ask for anything for a '60 ford starliner.
Here is what itll look like soon, sorry the site is in spanish but its the only page I could find with good pics.
