pretty much the same thing just happened to my car including the alternator bolt breaking except my car doesn't show battery light (at the moment,it might have done it at first though) only check engine light .. and rpm gauge and temperature gauge will only work sometimes ...when i turn it on it will suddenly loose power and click and and when it clicks it flashes the check engine light and shuts off or almost shuts off if i accelerate it helps it stay on ..basically my car is going into what ive heard described as limp mode. the general mechanic says its my computer/ecu but the two dealerships ive spoken with said that's not likely. from other forums ive found out that everything points to the alternator an ECU

just wanted to see if anyone that missed the thread from the link above might have any knowledge on the subject

Stop driving it now.
Fix the alternator mounting problem FIRST.
They don't always damage the PCM when this happens, and symptoms aren't always the same if it did toast it.
So fix the alternator problem first.
Then see how it runs and drives.
If it still runs bad, then the PCM is probably toast. Deal with it when you figure that out.

The gauges go nuts because they operate off of data that comes from the PCM instead of from individual sensors like on old cars. If the PCM goes nuts, the datastream goes nuts, and the gauges read stupid.
