PLEASE READ: 2K1 Suspension Replaced
just get the koni's. if installed correctly, there are great. ive had them for a while now and no complaints. someone mentioned they are going to wait for someone else to make them because they don't want to cut factory shocks apart...there are only two options for manufacturers. 1) do what koni did and require cutting to use stock steering arm. 2) make a new strut with steering arem (costing a lot of money) so u can wait and have to do the same thing, or yu can get koni's and be happy!
I have an early 2001 civic EX sedan. After reading all the postings on this topic I am still somewhat confused about this "recall suspension issue" for the civic. I have had the civic at the shop a couple times, most recently for a failed fuel pump/regulator. There has been no mention about any recall on the suspension on the early 2001. Are you all saying that Honda has "semi-recalled" the early 2001 civics for shock replacements? There is no question the car need frirmer shochs, mine is completely stock expect for a strut bar on the front. If anyone has a service repair info sheet or a recall? number please post such. Thanks
Well I own a 2K2 civic coupe and I have had them replaced twice now once at 6000 KM and again at 14000 Km I am rolling on to 20000Km now and they are leaking again. Honda said it if it happens again they will use an aftermarket part i dunno but I dont like going there every few months to get them replaced.......does anybody know of an aftermarket set that is good????

if it happens to you again, remember the lemon law. have them replace your car. but it's not good if you already have your mods. just a thought.
the only aftermarket shocks and struts are koni adustable. i DOUBT honda will use those because it requires cutting factory struts apart and reusing part of them. plus they are like 450-500 bucks...

too bad freaking kyb and tokico doesnt make shocks for 7thgen yet. those guys takes too much time to make shocks. not even out yet
Hmmm...I dunno about this recall. Now this is for all the 2001 Coupe and Sedans only? How come peps be saying they have this problem on the 2002. Clucking you say, does that happen when you brake? Cuz I can think of an instance or a few times where I have heard something click while breaking and accelerating from a dead stop. If this many people are having all these problems, how come Honda has not done a recall. Maybe people are just ignorant. I dunno. I was thinking of getting some Neuspeed or H & R lowering springs on my 2001 Civic but now Im worried. If they dont do the recall for me, wtf do I do now? I really dont got money for some struts/shock absorbers.
i had my front struts replaced last week. when i pulled out of their laneway 10 minutes after they fixed them they did everything they did before. its horrible. they screwed up my allignment too.
My struts have been giving me the same problems. Actually it's only the front Driver's side strut. First Honda Way told me it was the struts, but that they wouldn't cover it, then they told me it was the bushings, not they're telling me it's the ball joint. What gives and how can we make them hold to the recall when they tell us there is none? Then there's the fact that they've services my car twice now and had the engine blow on me no more than 13 days later each time.... both times the damage caused was from oil starvation, and the last time they actually refused to cover it even though it's under warranty. I would fight it but I'm told to stay clear of their lawyers. I'm sick of Honda way.
Damn I shouldve put my stock springs in 2 1/2 years ago and went to them to replace them if I knew that most 2k1s had faulty suspension. The day I got my Ground Controls put in my shocks blew.
Just brought my car in today for scheduled maintenance...and guess what...blown front struts...covered under warranty thank god! Hopefully, this solves the clunking noise i get when i turn at slow speeds.
Just do what i did. Tell them to replace the whole front strut and spring set up with the ones from the 2004 model. Never had a problem since. Touch wood!!!
Oh, and new ball joints, too. There's no movement, but they're poor quality and when you hit a bump you feel it. Clunk !!!!!

What happens if I don't get them replaced??!
My car is lowered and if i know Honda Canada well enough, they'll tell me to take a flying duck. What happens to my car if I don't get them replaced, is it just a rough ride, or what could it damage?
It doesn't matter who will make shocks and struts for a 7th gen. it is the design that causes the hassle of installation. Honda changed to macphearson from wishbone up front and that is why you need to retain the stock housing. the steering arm mounts to it. aftermarket companies have two options...
1. make a complete replacement which will be very very costly. ($1000 for the set or more)
2. make rear replacements and replacement cartriges up front costing 1/3 the amount.
Both options work great if installed correctly. I had konis on my 2k1 when i had it. If anyone lives in southeastern wisconsin and needs help on install i can help. pm me.
I am not bashing anyone but I just wanted to make this clear to people like MIVtec.
P.S. I know this is a repost but I wanted to make it easy on the folks who don't search.
I also still have a dc sports front upper strut tower bar for sale as well as aem cam gear for ex. PM me with an offer. Thanks guys.

WIll it damage something?
Okay, thanks for the reply... You are very right, I haven't read through the other posts, I'm always on the run (and I hate it).
BUT, will not changing my messed up shocks damage anything on my car?

Ok, This is whats happening to me. I had the same problem. Clicking at my right tire while turning right slowly. I never noticed, but it would only do it in 2nd gear. My dealer told me they came out with a bulliten about it. The dealer had already replaced my wheel bearing, now they are going to replace the whole 2nd gear in the tranny. SOB!

I've got 60k miles on my car and didn't have any noises until last week when i lowered it. The noises are the same that are being described for these so do you think that my struts are blown? If they are, since Honda has a bulliten about this do you think they would replace my struts? (I would put the stock springs back on)
i have had a lot of problems with noises coming from the car too. here is what i have experienced. this may factor in for all of you as well. so get it checked out. i have 45000 miles on my 2001 ex. i have already replaced..
1. both front control arms - $400
2. front motor mount- warranty
3. motor mount that was replaced started to slip.
if you have a manual trans and you hear a loud popping when starting off, have them check the motor mounts. honda factory mounts for our cars suck @SS!!!! i even had a tech try to tell me it was my intake knocking against my hood. don't give em an inch. theyll take a mile!!! good luck.
