Fragile upper mount rubber ?
Hi,
A front upper mount in my 01 has cracks in the central
rubber that holds the piston rod (pls see pic below,
as indicated by a red arrow). I've replaced
upper mounts for the same reason 6 months ago. Now it
breaks again. I doubt the quality of parts from my local
shop. Many friends who have 01+ suffer from this problem,
too.
I searched this site and seemed no one have my symptom.
I guess maybe parts from the U.S. have better quality.
I am considering order parts from the U.S. Am I doing
the right thing? Or just another waste of money and time?
What if I just ignore the cracks? Will the piston rod
pop out when the cracks form a complete circle around
the rod? Is it the rubber that holds the rod? I'm kind
of worried.
Oh, almost forgot, I use TEIN coilovers with stock upper
mounts. The small damping force adjusting dial is a clue.
Also a strut tower bar is installed.
