blown shocks?

First clue is that your ride will be really bouncy. Push down on the front or back and if it doesn't settle right away but sort of bounces for a bit, then they are blown. Also you can look for leaking fluid from the shocks.

I'm a victim of blown shocks myself. The front ones that is. I replaced them already though.
It's like robbclark1 says... Bouncy; you can especially tell on the highway. The front end of my car was swaying up and down when going over a bump. It was also easier to bottom out the shock. I hit my bump stops several times on large potholes and bumps. It sucks. I bent two rims that way. Bleh. Anyway, if you notice yourself avoiding potholes and bumps more than you used to then you've probably got blown shocks.
