Will a $28 rear tie bar reduce understeer?

Somebody who's knowledgeable with suspension tuning help me out.

I can buy a generic tie bar for $28. If I put that on, what are the possible negative outcomes for the car? Seems like strut bars are just a piece of metal, I'm not sure what difference spending $100 more would do. Even if the bar is too stiff, I doubt it'll oversteer...

People suggest changing the rear sway bar, but why not just only get a tie bar instead?

Probably more complicated than what I'm saying, but haven't had experience with different tie bars to understand the difference.

A tie bar itself will do didly squat. I had a DC Sports rear tie bar and I felt no difference with it on or off the car. Get stiffer sway bars. Then you'll notice a difference in handling.

As I understand it, you have a 2002 LX Coupe, so you have antiswaybars.
They should be a decent match for the stock suspension.

Since you have bigger wheels then stock, you should get a upper strut bar.
I'm really saw a big increase in the "sportiness" of the car, with zero negatives.
Driving thru twisty canyon roads the improvement is dramatic.
A good upper strut bar is going to cost more, but you get better materials, welds, and a better designed bar.
There's a chance the $28 bar (got a picture of it?) will work the same wonders, but I dunno the odds of that.

i've heard that the rear upper strut bars from ebay work pretty good. they do reduce understeer a bit. the tie bars dont really do anything, theyre pretty much for show. you can get the cheap strut bar and hope that it works out for you. but dont be disappointed if the quality is crap hehe

ak can only hope to improve
I have the rsx sway and ebay tie bar

the tie bar itself doesn't do jack in handling... it's only there to reinforce the frame.

Get a rear strut bar, that might help

only having a tie bar wont do anything for you...to reduce understeer heres what u can do...

Front Tire Pressure Higher
Rear Tire Pressure Lower
Front Camber More Negative
Rear Camber More Positive
Front Sway Bar Softer
Rear Sway Bar Stiffer

so the first thing you should do is get a rear sway bar...
getting a strut bar or tiebar will ONLY make your car have better steering response...it will barely help with turning better....

if you want to buy a strut bar i got one on ebay....LINK

I really don't see how a tie bar has anything to do with understeer. A tie bar is completely unrelated to an anti-sway bar, anti-roll bar, stabilizer bar..... the only reason why they would be mentioned together is because a stiffer sway bar will put more stress on the frame and you might need a tie bar to renforece it.

Oops. I meant strut bar. Sway bar, strut bar, tie bar, confusing. There's a $28 strut bar for sale in LA. My friend has it in his Del Sol and it seems to work. Since its only $28 I think I'll buy it and stick it on.
Thanks for the info.

uh...excessive body roll will cause more chassis flex than a really stiff sway bar...

Anything you can do to stiffen the rear while keeping the front the same will help reduce understeer. Replacing the rear struts with konis and setting them a little bit firmer than stock would do wonders.
