Progress 22mm Rear Sway Bar + Adapter Kit for DX/01 LX Installed (PICS)
Progress 22mm Rear Sway Bar + Adapter Kit for DX/01 LX Installed (PICS)
Process : The adapter kit is a bit intimidating at first. You open up the box expecting to see 2 units to attach to your control arms, but you isntead find a small zip lock bag FILLED with nuts, spacers, washers, bolts, and some other odd (but interesting) pieces. Assembling the two units took about 1.5 hours. All you're given is a vague front-view CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) design to construct the mounting units. They also shorted me on certain types of nuts. There were some bolts I was using that I didn't have enough nuts for, and I wasn't happy with some of the nuts they were suggesting I use so I went to home Depot and bought 6 Nylon locking nuts. That's the only trouble I ran into throughout the entire process. Once assembled I went over to my buddy's garage and followed the instructions it supplied for installing the unit and sway bar. The instructions are pretty decent in explanation. Jack up the car, pull the bolts form the control arm, put on the "tie bar" and now you can see where you have to drill. Mark 4 spots with white-out in the middle of the holes where the bolts go through the "tie" bar. Drill a small hole first THEN drill the 1/2" hole. A little trick my buddy's dad clued us in on just in case you didn't space the hole exactly where you wanted it the first time you could manipulate it a bit once drilling the 1/2" hole. Attach the units to the control arms. Bolt the sway bar on, bolt everything else up nice and tight and you're ready to go. It's all pretty easy wrench-turning stuff. The most difficult part would probably be aligning the 4 holes you have to drill correctly. Having a buddy with me helped termendously also. It took about 4 hours after unit assembly.
Performance : If you have a 01 LX or a DX and don't have a sway bar then you shouldn't even have to think twice about getting the adapter kit. Might as well get the 22MM sway bar while you're at it. The difference in performane is almost jaw dropping especially at high speeds.
Price : Progress 22mm Rear Sway Bar - $230 (shipped).
Progress Adapter Kit for 2001 LX and 2k1,2,3 DX - $160 (Shipped)
6 3/8 Nylon Locking Nuts from Home Depot - $6
I paid $160 for the adapter kit because I ordered it before Progress had shipped it out to their distributors and I wanted it ASAP. I think I was quoted $80 or something from Tornactive.com. I think he has them in stock now too.
And what most of you have been waiting for. I hope they're clear enough. If you want more pics from different angles just PM me and let me know. Do it ASAP though because I have to give this camera back to the original owner soon. Beware 56k. They're pretty large pictures. One is almost 1MB in size.
Progress left about 1mm of clearence between the BAR and the exhaust muffler. I thought they would defintely be banging together constantly, but after driving about 200 feet and letting everything settle I heard it bang a couple of times and then it was all set. The only times I hear it now is in the morning when everything is cold. That first shot of exhaust usually does a good job of vibrating the muffler enough to tap the bar. No big deal though. Once the car is warm you can start it up without hearing it, and it never hits during even instense driving conditions.
Pictures : Close up of adapter.
Adapter (distanced. mmmm koni's)
Adapter base (U-Bolt)
Close up of endlink. (very cool IMO)

Sway/"tie" combo. (note the fruity colors)

ooooh. the adapter is pretty spiffy.
looks like the endlinks, adapters are well designed... Ialways wonder how they're going to get the endlink on the LCA without welding a mounting point.
looks like its worth it. I'm sure u're feeling the difference.

They used what I assumed they were going to use to attach it to the control arm. The U-Bolt. Ride comfort is awesome. I'm not like most people. Stiffer = better for me. I don't like squishiness when I'm trying to take turns and going over bumps.

Thanks for the pics. I can't wait to get the kit and bar for my Dx. I'll probably just bribe the local muffler shop to install mine. Should be simple for somebody that throws exhaust pipes on all day.
I was surprised that the rear strut bar made a difference in handling when I installed it. I didn't think it'd do much w/o the sway bar. I guess this just goes to show how much the 'vics need that sway bar for good handling. Getting rid of the awful stock tires
helped a LOT also.
I've been bugging Greg at Hondawerx relentlessly on AIM to get the kit in stock. He assures me that it'll be there soon. He also quoted me a price on the Progress sway bar for $209 shipped, an incredible deal! I'm sure that these will sell like crazy once the word gets around about them.

Looks pretty good. I think I could make a custom one out of a block of aluminum looking at these pictures. Might be a little less costly than that kit. Although if I could get one for $80, then that's not bad.

looks good but wash your car, I don't think mine has every been that dirty... And how'd you get the blue bar?? my progress bar came in a bare metal color.. which I guess I like because my color scheme is red/black and that baby blue color wouldn't match at all! And why did you shave the progress logo? It looks sweet with the logo on it, especially if you have a kit...
I did wash my car. Later that day actually. Your car has never been that dirty because it probably doesn't snow that often out where you live and they probably don't load the roads up with salt like they do here. Anyway. That's the color it came in. That's the color progress bars come in. Maybe you happened to get one that wasn't powder coated or something. Anyway. I shaved the logo because I don't want any logos or anything anywhere on my car. There's no need for it. Progress didn't give me a discount or pay me to have their logo there. So it comes off. Plain and simple.

Amen, brother Nytejade. Logos and stickers are for school notebooks and little girls, not expensive automobiles. That stuff is worse than putting a friggin bumper sticker on your car.

Found out something interesting from ClubRSX.com; Progress sway bars are no longer that turquoise color. The one that IDQcivic has is the newer one. They changed it because people were complaining about that color.[hr]

Good thing my car is a bit lowered and I'll be getting a rear lip soon. My car looks like fruit loops if you peer into the wheels. Yellow Koni Shocks, Red Neuspeed Springs, a Turquoise Sway Bar, Yellow Polyurethane bushings, Gold Bushing Brackets, and a silver Tie Bar. AHh well. If someone looks under there one of two things will through their heads. "nice setup" or "what an idiot".

haha they might think you are color blind ,dam that is just toooooo tight, i myself am going to get one in a few days, and i hope that the bar will clear my exhaust... i was wondering if you could take pictures of where the exaust and the bar come into contact?
thanx
thanx
I'll see what I can do. I won't have access to a digital camera for a couple of weeks. Basically where the sway bar runs behind the exhaust to meet with the endlink there is about 1mm of clearance. When I start the car in the morning the jolt makes it hit the sway bar. (which there is now a tiny rust spot on the bar). Once the car is warm it doesn't happen anymore.
