Koni Insert and Cut Factory Struts (Front)
Ok thanks to vnlilman ... I seem to get the picture about the way koni has to be done in order to change the struts and since it is the only way to go as of right now I got some questions
So now the question is ...
1) what do you guys think or know about cutting stock struts and adding in the koni inserts ... is it a good idea.
2) Is it a routine job done in speed shops or is this a relatively new thing to do (in other words will the speedshop guys know what I am taking about and know how to do it without screwing up)
3) how long does the front cut factory strut with koni insert last ... is it weaker than a normal strut in the front? ( I would be using neuspeed sport springs 1.7" drop)
4) I see that alot of guys on this member site have lowering springs but no strut change ... is that because the cutting strut thing isnt worth it? I notice either the people go all out with coilovers or only have springs.
I thank vnlilman for his patience ... I know I am not the brightest guy when it comes to this stuff so thanks for not ragin' on my ***

This much I know...
The Konis are going to last a long time. I dunno if they still offer a lifetime warranty, but I had them for about 8 years on my old Jetta (no problems under extremely hard driving for 100,000 miles).
The factory stuff doesn't compare.
If we all had more choices for shocks, and more money to spend, I don't think anyone would just do springs.
I believe any decent shop can do the cutting.
What I don't know is if you do the cutting does it limit other options later on.
(going back to original equipement or coilovers)

eh, i already answered his question in his other thread but to clarify.. "What I don't know is if you do the cutting does it limit other options later on. (going back to original equipement or coilovers)"
well obviously you cut up the front struts so you cant glue them back and use them again. you can buy new ones tho which probably run $200 for both. if you want to go with sleeved coilovers or a different set of springs... no problem. if you want to go with true coilovers, no problems here either. but ya only thing your cutting is the shocks and shocks are easily replaceable.
