Funny Handling

I have a stock 2002 dx coupe. Sometimes when I’m driving above 60mph it feels like the car is all over the road. It doesn’t happen all the time. You feel it at any speed when it rains. I checked the tire pressure. I’m going to have the dealer check the alinment. The funny is doesn’t do it all the time. Any ideas of what this could be?

It is kind of hard to describe. Its not bouncy more like I'm driving on ice. As I think of it reminds me of torque steering. I have noticed that when I hit uneven spot on the highway I find myself correcting a lot. At first I thought thats how this car is suppose to handle compared to my lude. But it just comes and goes. When it rains I reely feel the right tire gripping on turns. It rained yestarday as I easied off the clutch the car would just spin then take off.

i think the tires have alot to do with it...
when i had my firestones, my tires would spin alot of times when i floor it(this is with my auto )
now that i have 18s, i cant. and when i dropped my car on firestones, of course i took turns faster, and the car would seem to drift under me, with 18s i only drift a little when the floors wet.

i kinda understand what you mean by " I have noticed that when I hit uneven spot on the highway I find myself correcting a lot". i dunno maybe its cause we have mchperson struts in the front. the wheels are a little bit closer tied together with the steering then a double wishbone suspension(or atleast i would think)

On stock tires in the rain, it's hard to move the car from a stand-still in 1st when releasing the clutch at above 2,000 RPMs. Tire spin is inevitable that way.

The entire issue sounds like it's your tires. How many miles have you put on those tires? If you have over 20,000 miles, their use is just about gone. If you've overdosed on burnouts to cause further wear to the life of the tire and have less than 20k miles then that's probably the problem, too. All in all, the stock tires suck and changing the tires was my first real mod to my car. The stock firestones have poor traction and they are even worse for the DX, HX, and LX as they are S rated tires.

I think he means his tires lose traction after hitting a bump. It sounds like it's your tires. I would change them regardless of how many miles are on them unless you're about to get rims with new tires soon. If you do, I say get a good H rated tire... or even better, a Z rated one.

If the problem seems like torque steer it's most likely a Worn tie rod end..If your on the highway and hold the wheel in the same direction..does the ca drift a little left or right..or does it hold a straight line?.. if it drifts a little..it's genrally tre pressure or a warn tie rod end. If it holds straight...it's the tires..which are very crappy to begin with..
