Front suspension noise with Neuspeed Sports
Just put in Neuspeed sports on my Vti Sedan and I'm really satisfied with the drop. However due the "progressive" design of these springs, the front suspension makes quite a racket when you hit rough spots on the road. I eventually figured out that it was the "dead" coils that was makin the racket.
I jury rigged some rubber garden hose held in place with some nylon cable ties to act as insulators and this has drastically reduced the noise. Dont like the way they look though.
Anybody got an idea where I can get my hands on some real Honda OEM coil insulators?
Thanks

Neuspeed sports are designed with "dead" coils( the coils on one end that are close together). They're like this so that when a wheel is airborne or the car is on a lift the springs remain captive and tight between the spring caps.
If you look at the springs on the car you'll notice these coils are bunched up together and that's what makes that noise when you hit a rough spot, the coils hitting each other.
the solution is to wrap the dead coils with some kind of insulator, they're not available where I live so i used garden hose and it works, kinda primitive lookin though and definitely not cool but beats havin that "the front suspension is comin apart noise"

Come to think bout it Id think the people at Neuspeed are aware of this "problem" and should take it upon themselves to include some kind of insulators with the springs.
Maybe if enuf people with Neuspeeds on 2K1 hondas with the same problem wrote them they'd do just that!
I'm sendin them an e-mail...

its a problem most spring owners have, not just neuspeed. i think our cars are supposed to come with it. mine didnt... but ya it would be nice if they included it, i think the eibach prokit does

yeah you're right but in this case even if you put in konis with these springs you'd still get the noise! It's a function of how these springs are designed, on a race car the noise would be acceptable I guess but not on a car you drive everyday.

Yeah I'll still get sound sounds on mine too. But It seems to me that I get it when the days are warmer....? And its only on my front right spring. I, along with many other Neuspeed Sport owners, installed my front springs upside down (according to the Neuspeed tech guy), but it works just as well and does no harm to the car. My dead coils are sitting on the bottom of the perch, how did you install yours? It seems like you're right about the noise, regardless of what shocks you have? Oh well, when I blow mine out and have enough $$$, I'll go lower with some Neuspeed Race....
VNlilman,
Did you install your own suspension? I tend to install all my own components and have been quite successful except for with my front suspension. Everything's installed correctly, perches are lined up, spring sitting properly(dead coils on top), etc. but I still seem to be getting that dang "sproing" noise from the springs when I turn my wheel. It seems to come from the right front more than the left front.
I've currently got the Neuspeed Sport springs mounted on the stock strut bodies with the Koni inserts. I've dang near replaced every piece hardware of the suspension with new OEM parts (including OEM coil isolators for bottom coil, bump stops, plastic bearings, upper strut mounts, and the rubber ring for the upper spring perch). One would think that all this effort would result in noise-free operation but NO, it has not (at least for me).
I just don't know what to do now but am tempted to get some coilovers in the front with pillow-ball mounts.
Talk about frustrating.

i didnt install my own but i've tried it 2 times about 6 hours each. i'm only 100 lbs trying to do it by myself, didnt have proper instructions such as everything lining up. so it took forever to get even the stocks back on. i didnt know you had to jack up both sides of the front. minor information that would have helped out alot. thats why i ended up writing the detailed DIY, so people wouldnt have to go through what i did, learn from my mistakes. but ya i ended up workings overtime for 4 hours to get enough money to pay a shop to do it. those 2 times i tried it were hell...but ya now that i'm more confident i'll probably do it myself next time. oh and keep in mind i didnt know jack about cars and suspension when i tried this, its funny what staring at something for 12 hours could do..
anyways.. what kind of noise do you get? popping noise is usually cause by the springs twisting. they twist because the top rubber perch isnt mounted correctly. if its a rattle over small bumps, its the spring isolators. maybe your not putting it on right? i think you have to cover the dead coils as well as the bottom of the spring. or sometimes noises are caused because the top bolt isnt bolted down enough

VNlilman,
Sorry I wasn't clear. When I wrote "sproing", I thought that would convey the sound that I get when I turn my steering wheel. However, to answer your question, it's a popping noise of sorts (basically sounds like the spring is twisting to the point where it finally releases and rotates slightly). The noise seems to be coming from when the twisting tension is finally broken/released.
Unless the Honda official shop manual is incorrect, my installation is good to go. I've checked it multiple times just in case.

when i was attempting to install my springs i didnt notice but someone said that the top rubber mount must be aligned right. you know where the spring goes into the rubber peice up at the top. everything looks even but if you look closely at it, one side of it is narrower then the other. the end of the spring is supposed to go inside the narrow part. make sure the ball bearings are properly greased cause that should spin freely so that nothing else spins(like the springs themselves). i dunno, alot of people have this problem. i used to have it but its slowly dissappearing. andyman is supposed to try and fix his todays too
