Camber corrects the problem of incorrect camber when lowering your car. Rule of thumb, lower your car up to 1.5 inches and you can probably get away with it. Any lower than you'll need one. Actually, do it anyway to be on the safe side.

How long it'll last? Depends on how you drive. It'll last shorter than it would'be if you've had a camber correction done. You'll notice wear on the sides of the tires.

camber kits will DEF make your tires last a LOT longer once the car is lowered...but i have to say, i feel like the car doesnt handel as well w/ the car back to stock camber settings....maybe its just in my head?

i have springs, dampers, sway bar out back, and 215/45-17's....and the car doesnt handel like i think it should....

when you lower your car, your going to get a negative camber. when you raise the car your going to get a positive camber. great what is camber... the angle your tires touch the floor at... when you drop your car the top of the tires tilt inward which is a negative camber. so when you look at your car from the rear your tires look like this / \. positive being the other way around \ /. obviously if you have negative camber the insides are going to touch the ground more then the outsides creating uneven tire wear. well driving in a straight line that is.
when you get an alignment you want everything to align right well except for the camber.. that could vary depending on the driver... how could this be... turns... when you turn you put more pressure on the outside of the tires. perfect example is my friend, he likes to take left turns fast. he hasnt dropped his car or anything so his camber should technically be even. if you look at his tires, the left side of each tire is all worn out. this is why the camber could vary depending on driver.
back to your question..
a camber kit allows you to adjust the camber. how long will it takes... theres no real answer. it really depends on alot of things.. how you drive, the tires, the amount of drop, etc...
as for the handling, i think my 18s killed it. i feel every bump on the road, my car turns to every crack on the road, i just have to keep a firm grip on my steering wheel now. yes i can take turns faster but going straight sucks... not sure how adjusting the camber would effect it much tho.
