Getting added toe adjustment.
Getting added toe adjustment.
ok so I have a total of 3.25" drop in the front and may need some extra toe adjustment. I know that you can buy inverted tie rod ends really the only ones that I found are T1R and are $220
My question is that I have aftermarket rod ends.... can I just turn them upside down? Would that increase the stress on them and cause failure? Last thing I want to do is lose my steering. I have a decent angle on the tie rods however this would help decrease it by about an inch+ and give me more toe adjustment.
What do others do?

OOPS...
This is what I was talking about
I understand that, but where it connects to the strut is a straight drilled hole as far as I know so if it is what would the drawbacks be of putting it in upside down IF it is possible....

HOWEVER
The tie rod ends fit the same on my struts right side up and inverted. I dont really see an issue with inverting them. lol
Anyone else's opinion?

Re: Getting added toe adjustment.
check with the coil maker - they might know if the struts are designed for both, taper both ways.
if they are, you could invert? (not sure of the stresses associated, i am on pro-kit, so never had to worry about that.)

Re: Getting added toe adjustment.
I believe the stock struts are step drilled to fit the taper, however, if your steering knuckle holes are the same size all the way through, there's really no problem with inverting the existing ends and putting them in that way...other people have done it, but either had to mil off the taper, or drill out the knuckle to the right size, but seeing as how the coils are the same size, you shouldn't have an issue.
Re: Getting added toe adjustment.
I've got a set of EP3 T1Rs, if you're interested. Didn't have enough thread on my J's Racing Rods to be safe / get the toe needed. Depending on your coilover type you may need to get modified tie rods to get the added toe. Check Club RSX, to get the type you may need. Shorter, longer, more thread, less, etc. It's been a while since I've done any substantial suspension work / research.
Re: Getting added toe adjustment.
So after some research lots of measurements I tapered the lower part of the strut arm. Came out to a perfect fit. Measured with a digital caliper and the difference in the top to bottom taper was 1mm. Also the taper stopped less than halfway through the strut arm.
As for fitment.... tight with zero movement. I used a metal tapering drill bit, took it slow and VOILA! MORE TOE ADJUSTMENT.
Thanks for the help!!! love these forums!

Re: Getting added toe adjustment.
So I just got another comment on the 7th Gen forums that this will cause more bump steer? Honestly I didnt have any to begin with and had maxed out my toe adjustment which is the main reason I did this. I can change it back with no issues so im not concerned there.
I do notice that I have a bit bumpsteer now but my alignemnt is off (toe is WAY off obviously and looks like this \ / ) I cant get in to get an alignment till Sat morning and I am attributing the **** handling to the alignment issues. Would I be correct in assuming that. My Brother in law is a mechanic and said it would be fine im looking for some feedback from you guys tho..

Re: Getting added toe adjustment.
Got my alignment on Saturday and no more poping sounds from the rack. Lowered the angle but inverting my rod ends and It drives a bit better than it did before I did it. I dont notice any bump steer or adverse affects. Oh yeah I also got about 30% more toe adjustment as well!!! Now I can go lower and still maintain decent read wear.
