Strut/spring options for a winter beater..
Strut/spring options for a winter beater..
hey guys i have a '02 civic coupe with 160k miles and right now it feels like i'm driving a boat. i definitely need new front struts and rear shocks, so after some research i'm pretty much set on the kyb gr2s. (good, cheap, etc)
however my question(s) is..what about my springs?
how do you know if you need new springs? (the car isnt sagging in any corner)
how long do you normally get out of oem springs? (i heard/read that they're not that good)
like i said, its just a winter beater so i'm really just looking to fix it and make it last. if i actually do need springs, i was just going to buy the eibach pro-kit.

springs are lifetime parts, so you should be good keeping it stock. if you want a bit firmer and lower ride, prokit is very nice. i too would go with tokico over kyb. with new shocks, the ride will prolly become higher than it is now since older oem shocks tend to sag.

okay so i found a good price on tokico blues and i'm going to keep my stock springs.
now is there anything else i should order like the bearings or mounts?
or just wait until i tear it apart to see if they're bad?

yeah no way to tell til its pulled apart. more than likely tie rods and top mount bearings will be needed. prolly LCA bushings as well.

Wouldnt be a bad idea to check your front motor mount while your at it, they break too..Everything rubber seems to prematurely break on these cars.
