Bang for $ Shocks + Springs
Bang for $ Shocks + Springs
Hey guys, i'm looking to drop my civic around 1.5 - 1.75 (after I put on some 17" rims) and coilovers are out of my league, so, what is in your guys' opinion the best bang for buck shock and struts?
I was thinking Eibach sportlines and Tokico D-specs but those are a little expensive. I heard the cheapest combo is Teins and tokico blues, but the ride quality isnt that great. What do yo guys suggest? I definately want to stay around $500 for everything.
Alo, would I need a camber kit for the back with that much of a drop? Im pretty sure I wouldn't need one for the front, but suspension is not my forte. Thanks.

Re: Bang for $ Shocks + Springs
I used tokico blues with oem springs, H&R springs, and tien springs. The ride quality with tein is the best of the three.
D-spec is not ideal for a daily driven car. No need really.
Yes you need a camber kit for the front and rear. Then you need to get it aligned.

Well it's up to you on choice of springs. I chose tein to test them out, and love them. I do think they have 1.5 option, but they should have 1.75 too I think, could be wrong. But yea tokico's, springs, camber kit, and alignment and its lowered with a smooth ride.
Re: Bang for $ Shocks + Springs
What should I be looking for in a camber? Can I get away with some no name kit on ebay?
There is a Megan rear camber kit for $100 and a skunk 2 for $170.
Whats a good price for a decent set?

Oh, just a quick question out of curiosity. Do you need a camber kit with a coilover kit? From what I understand, the coilovers kind of come with a built in damper system. Well they are fully adjustable so you dont need a camber it right?

Coilovers are dampers- they dampen the spring back when U roll over stuff.
Yes you'll need a camber kit. Mostly only the rears need it unless you get really low then the fronts will need it. A lot of coilovers have camber plates built into them. I know my megans do and so do K sports. That helps you adjust up front, as for the rear, there is no build in adjustment- the stock camber kit isnt adjustable and it will need to be adjusted. Fully adjustable coilovers means the height and the rebound is adjustable.

Ok, and whats the difference between a FULL coilover set, and something like Tokico D-spec shocks (apparently adjustable) and Skunk adjustable springs (also adjustable)
I mean if I combined the Dspecs with the Skunks, would I have a set of fully adjustable coilovers right there?
