Time to drop
Time to drop
Hey guys, just picked up some rims the other day off a guy on my local civic forum. car looks kinda stupid now cuz i got a huge wheel gap so time for a drop. I pretty much just need some advice. Here is my ride,

so as u can see, pretty large gap eh
im rollin on 205/45/16 and was thinkin of dropping it two, two and a half inches (although i would really love to slam it lol). I was lookin at some tein Stechs but i dont know if that is going to b low enough, but i liked the fact that i could roll on stock struts with them.
So basically my question for u guys is: How low do u guys think i could drop it so that it looks good, but is still functional (there are alot and i mean ALOT of speed bumps and very steep inclines around here.
also, how low can i go on stock shocks?

Re: Time to drop
rims look nice! i think you should get a small drop maybe 1.5 inch. like eibach sportline springs and tokico hp shocks. any lower and the ride quality gets bad. stock shocks dont handle any kind of drop, not even 1 inch. i blew mine in 3 months on 1 inch drop springs (eibach prokit). also you need camber kit front and rear so you can properly align the car.

Re: Time to drop
most ppl go with tokico HP blue shocks which are cheap and rated for a 1.5 inch max drop. neuspeed race should work fine with em and they are a quality spring.
Re: Time to drop
Neuspeed race lowered 2.25 "(F) & 2.0 "(R), I dont think tokico HP can handle it. Did u mean Neuspeed Sport gearbox?

Re: Time to drop
hmm yeah i meant neuspeed sport, tokico wont handle race its too low. not sure what other shock works with 2 inch and lower.
Re: Time to drop
personally i would get full coilovers so if you change your mind on ride height it's a turn away.also there is not much difference price wise i got full progress coilovers for $995 but you can find them cheaper .there good for 4 inch drop.
Re: Time to drop
thats true, and i mean if i get new springs and struts its gunna run around that much anyways right? the problem im having is i just decided to have some fun wiht my car and now i just wanna do everything rite away lol. so mayb i should just drop it properly now with coilovers and wait a while befor i do anything else to it.

x2 go right the first time and dont worry about it..my first time i had some 17's and i went with tokico and s-techs..not log enough u will regret it..now im on d2's and i love the ride..i can adjust it anytime i want to also..got them for 750 off H-T.. just my 2 cents
Re: Time to drop
u guys got any recommendations as to where to order from? or would it be better to get them from a local shop so they can install to?
EDIT: just looked at the specs on the tein ss, they only drop about 3" in the front, u think that would b low enough for the height my car is currently at? or could u guys recommend a coil over that is relativly inexpensive that would drop it more in the front?
also should i be getting a front and rear camber kit? or just rear? havent done to much research on the camber kits yet, does it matter what kind u get or r they all pretty similar, aka one brand not better than the other?
and is there anything else i need get besides a camber kit?

Re: Time to drop
it depends on how low you go 2 inches is fine for some people others like it low and slow it depends on what you want performance or looks that will decide what parts to get.how much are you willing to spend.i would get energy suspension master kit, upgraded strut bars, tie bars, sway bars, front and rear ingalls camber kits, inverted tie rods, and roll center udjusters, also don't pay a shop they will rape you its very easy to install coilovers yourself.

Re: Time to drop
I would agree with the idea of getting full coilovers. Take it from a guy who was on a spring/strut combo last year. I switched to coilovers and it's a world of difference. The ride is much better, and you can adjust the height. I bought Megans, which also have damper adjustments at all four corners. I would go for those because the kit includes the pillow ball upper mounts, and the quality is great for the price.

Re: Time to drop
If you just want a mild drop, just get S-techs. that drop will not require new struts or a camber kit. In all honesty, if your looking for a performance coilover, unless your willing to pay 2k+, there arent really any good ones at all and this is coming from someone riding on Tein SS-P's currently. They handle nicely for a 1600 coilover but could be better. Prior to them, I had GC/Koni's and they, hands down, handled much better, and was a couple hundred cheaper.
If I were you, Id get just some Tein Basics since the basics and SS's have almost the same dampener (same basic build), except without the adjust ability of dampener stiffness. You just seem like you want to be able to lower your care and have some decent handling capability. You can find them for 400-500 used. Any other brand of coilovers like Megan, Progress, or D2 are just a waste of money. Id rather ride on blown koni's than those.
My 2 cents

Re: Time to drop
all i wanna do is drop it so it looks hot, i mean i want it to handle well but i really dont wanna dump a bunch of money into my suspension cuz its just a DD. so as long its hawt and drives alright, works for me.

Re: Time to drop
i dont think you even read my earlier post so i wont bother to try and argue my point because i certainly know you wont get it.
i didnt claim progress was made in a 3rd world country. I just stated that id rather ride on blown koni's than those coilovers, thus theres no point in me providing any sources, unlike you, who stated that the tein basics were "outsourced overrated unreliable tiawan garbage .", even though they share the basic dampener as the higher up models, like the Tein SS-P's.
