Lowering on a bent LCA?
Lowering on a bent LCA?
Sometime during the winter i time i slid into a curb going around 40mph making me crack my rims and bending my LCA alittle bit. I got a new rim and got an alignment. everything is fine now, however my LCA is still bent. Its about a 4 finger gap from the front of the tire to the front bumper and a 3 finger gap fromt he other side of the tire to the fender.
I was wondering if i were to lower my car around 1.4inches, would the bent LCA have any effect? I'm assuming i'm going to need another alignment and that the gap may become bigger, i'm not sure. I dont think its bent enough for me to replace the LCA but if i lower it and more problem were to presist then i will buy a new one.

Re: Lowering on a bent LCA?
i'm no suspension guru, but it's bent enough to be noticeable, i would strongly suggest replacing it before lowering. lowering a car already changes your overall suspension geometry. you don't want any other issues due to a bent LCA. best case scenario would be uneven tire wear or wheel misalignment. do i even need to mention worst case??
Re: Lowering on a bent LCA?
Its really not that noticable, like if you saw my car for the first time and i didnt tell you anything, you probably wouldnt' notice. but if i were to tell you then you would but its still not that noticable, thats why i'm wondering if it would have any effect when i lowered it. I guess i can take a picture of it tomorrow when its light out.

Re: Lowering on a bent LCA?
if its bent, lowered or not, you need to fix it.
A new LCA is $105. We're not talking about an expensive fix here.

Re: Lowering on a bent LCA?
I just bought a new LCA, should be coming in sometime next week. Do the front LCA have any special tools required? or is it only just for the rear LCA, something about using a 10 star socket to remove the LCA, and does anyone know of a DIY for it? i looked at it and looks pretty straight forward but I rather have a set of directions to make sure i dont do anything stupid, haha
