Am I having Strut Problem?
I own a 2002 civic EX with 60 miles on it, the problem I'm having is that when I'm driving and I run over a bump the tire shakes and makes a clunk sound, as if something is loose. What I wanted to know is would that be the strut that is causing it or is it something else? would I have to replace the whole thing and roughly how much would it cost? thanks
Re: Am I having Strut Problem?
It sounds a whole lot like my issue. I have the same metal on metal rattle, which I believe to be a shot compliance bushing. I think that the problem is exaggerated with leaking or blown struts.
From what I've seen, the parts and labor on the bushings are about $300, and the front struts coming in at about $400, but I'm not certain, you should call around.
There are aftermarket bushings from Energy Suspension. Tokico Blue struts have been recommended to me as replacements.

Re: Am I having Strut Problem?
It could be the strut mount/bearing as well. Super Autobacs who changed my installed my Tokico shocks didn't check the strut mount/bearing. I heard metal to metal rattling over bumps about 2-3 months after installation and ended up having to change the strut mount/bearing. If Super Autobacs checked and replaced this at the time of strut installation, I could have saved on labor.
So check the wear on the strut mount/bearing when the shocks come off.

Re: Am I having Strut Problem?
It's not the LCA... I have the same problem and i recently replaced both driver's and passenger's side LCAs, and i still have the clunk sound when going over bumps / speed bumps and such.
I have exactly the same problem. I thought it was because of worn struts, but after i replaced I still hear clunk sound. I think it's because of worn wheel bearings. I may be wrong. Im gonna check mine soon cuz my front wheels shake like hell

Re: Am I having Strut Problem?
did you replace the strut mount bearings when you did the struts? jack the car up and if you can wiggle the wheel then its ball joints. wheel bearing would get pretty noisy all the time i would think. front wheels vibration while driving could just be a balance issue.

So I guess you can add that to your checklist.
