Lowering my 04 Civic EX
Lowering my 04 Civic EX
Alright so I want to lower my civic. Right now i got 15" stock wheels. Im planing on putting on some rims after this winter. Should I lower my car first on my stock wheels or should i I wait until i get my 18" rims after the winter then lower the car?
Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
thanks but you dont think when i put on my 18 it will be too low since it was low enough on the 15"s. how big of drop do you think i should put on a civic with 18"? how about 15"? Oh yea im planin on getting s-techs
spell check pwns you

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
if you lower it first then you can choose what size u want and how thick of tire without rubbing. i would say 17's as max size. after that the bigger is just pointless.
Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
Lower it first to get the full appreciation of the drop. Then pick out a nice set of rims that will accent the drop. The stockers will look "that" much better with a drop. S-Techs only drop it I believe 1.4 in the rear and 1.3 in the front. Nothing real major but helps eliminate some of the wheel gap.
Also 18's are a bit much for Civics. Not un-heard of but a little big. 17's will be just right IMO.

Yeah drop it first... if you're dropping the car more than an inch and a half you're gonna need to get some 45 series tires to squeeze them in your wheel wells if you're going for 17s... 40's are just too skinny for me. I had to roll out my rear fenders with a baseball bat

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
your back is going to be lower than your fronts for sure. I got an 04 coupe as well, but I'm dropped on neuspeed sports. Back is lower due to my system in the trunk. You eventually get used to the look.
However, I think you should still lower the front and back. Just get some coilovers if you are worried about height issues.

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
what kind of lowering springs do you reccomend? how are those neuspeed sports? how much of a drop are they? im planing on getting 18's with 215/40/18 tires

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
Its suppose to drop 1.75 in front, and 1.5 in rear. My rear is around 2.0 for sure, because of my system. I've taken my system out before, and the rear comes up, so its more even drop. My rears have very little to no gap (not tucking). My fronts have about a 1 finger gap.
I like my neuspeed sports. I don't think I would be happy with the tein s tech drop. Its all personal opinion though. I must admit, that I do scrape the bottom of my car depending on the speed bump. Very minor scraping, but you do hear it though.
Everyone's going to recommend different springs, but I think the neuspeeds give a perfect drop if I didn't have a system. The tein s techs are decent springs too. I would say plenty of people on this board have them. I just didn't get them because they don't drop as low as I want. If I didn't end up getting the neuspeed sports, I probably would have bought the tein s techs.
Here is a pic of my drop (system inside though, rears sits higher without system). Tires are 205/45/17.

I know its not the greatest side picture, but you can still see the drop in the front and back.

looks really nice bro...it looks like a decent drop...most s-techs that ive seen have bigger drops in the rear, dont know why....but it looks really nice...i love your car color...was it waxed and polished? really shiny...lol..do you think if i got 18's it would defenitly scrape a lot more then your 17's?

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
Thanks, yeah it was waxed in the picture. I think the scraping depends on where you live, and where you drive. I don't scrape everyday. I get over most speed bumps/humps fine. There are just certain ones that I scrape on a rare occasion. 17's or 18's I don't think it'll make a difference.
Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
oh alright man....thanks a lot I like the drop on your car im just still trying to figure out if i should get 17s or 18s . Believe it or not my cars exhaust scrapes alot( evo 2) its really low i can imagine how low it would be wit the lowering springs

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
I'm on Tokico D-specs. I have it setup pretty firm. Its almost set to max firmness. So the ride is harsh when you hit bumps, and dips on the road. I can always set it to the softer setting, but I don't like the way the car feels when its on the softer settings. Handling is amazing imo. Its even better when I take out the system. The system does affect your handling. I'm 100% satisfied with it.
Forget to mention, when the road is not bumpy, the ride is very very smooth.

Re: Lowering my 04 Civic EX
I would go with after market struts and shocks, cause the ride is going to $hit on stock shocks. Also I know I wouldn't want to change my suspension twice. Once to install springs, and once to install struts and shocks. Even if you stick with stock shocks, you'll eventually have to change 'em out.
Just do it right the first time. Spend the money and do it right. Don't do a half a$$ job.
