Rough ride - whats wrong?

Recently one of my friends had told me that the ride quality in my car is getting rough. I didn't even notice but then i realized that the bumps were feeling a lot more rough then usual.

I thought it was my shocks but i was told that it was more likely my "linkage", what exactly is that? and how exactly do i get this problem repaired?

Thanks,

its prolly blown shocks, thats what dampens the car over bumps.

Re: Rough ride - whats wrong?

Most likely they are your shocks. What is your current suspension setup? You may want to inspect other parts of your suspension such as control arm bushings and ball joints... although they dont do as much interms of dampening your car over bumps, if they are worn out it will definetly make your ride feel different.

linkage...hahahahaha...check the struts...how many miles does your car have on it? If it has 60k+ you might wanna think about replacing them anyway...if you aren't dropped already this would be a good time to do it...

My suspension is all bone stock right now. If it is my shocks how do i make sure that thats the problem? Is there anyway of checking while it is still installed? I thought that in order to lower my car i would have to get springs - shocks can do the job as well? (Don't flame....I'm a n00b, lol)

Re: Rough ride - whats wrong?

they're probably bad. most people drive around on blown struts and never know it. i've had blown stock struts on my car pretty much ever since I got it, and I'm still dropped on sportlines with blown struts.

and I don't know what someone was talking about when they told you to check your "linkage."

if you have a rough ride it's most likely your struts. sometimes you can just look at them and tell if they're bad or not, but that's usually if they're REALLY bad. take one off (or have someone do it) and if you can compress it super easy and it goes back to normal position super slow, then it's bad.

and to lower your car, you will need lowering springs or coilovers. shocks alone won't lower your car. if you're wanting to drop, now would be the perfect time to do it. i'd recommend some tockico blues and sportlines if you want a good drop for a good price. oh, and remember to get a camber kit!
