RSX rear swaybar installed

I just got done installing a rear anti-sway bar from an RSX type S on my 2k1 ex. The thing looks great. I test drove it and nothing seams to be rubbing. There is an autoX tomorrow, so I will find out if it makes the car feel more nutral.

stock ex swaybar = 12mm
RSX type S swaybar = 19mm

It was fairly easy to instal. It took roughly a half hour to do and all you need is an 12mm sock and a 14mm wrench (ratcheting would help a lot). Basically there are 6 bolts to address.

As for oversteer and understeer, my car (our cars) being front wheel drive has a tendancy to understeer through hard tight corners under acceleration. So, hopefully by going with a larger and therefor stiffer bar in the rear, the car should become a little more neutral through the turns.

If anyone is interested I can post the part numbers for what parts are needed. All together the cost was under 100$. Not a bad price for a swaybar and the best part is that it is factory Honda.

Personally im gonna wait till Suspension Techniques comes out with their beefy sway bars for our cars. My friend has them on his 92 integra, and its nearly flat around the turns...literally.

I noticed that guys on the RSX board are getting into ordering the Integra Type R (What would be the RSX R in the US) rear sway bar which I believe is a fat 23mm. If that dosen't make your car flat, I dont know what will.

SICSOL!! Where you from in Philly? I am from West Chester (35 minutes southwest). Also, yeah a part list would be killer, it sounds like a great idea and I am interested in the details and how the autox went. Peace

Im from Upper Darby, like 15 min. from you. I used to go to Malvern Prep, which is even closer. I will post the part numbers tomorrow after the autoX. The invoice sheet is in my garage. If you are interested the autoX is over in Camden in the parking lot of the new minor league baseball field next to the Ben Franklin Bridge.

The website is http://www.autox4u.net/

Sounds good. What about us 2001 LX's without any rear anti-sway bar? We'll have to get everything an EX has I guess? Or did you have to replace some of the mounting brackets as well?

For us DX's and 2001 LX's, this might help: EX sway bar closeups It'll give you an idea of where to drill the holes.

Here are the Acura part numbers for those with an EX:
52300-S6M-A01 Spring, RR. 19 (1 of these)
52306-S6M-A01 Bush 19MM (2 of these)
52308-S6M-000 Holder, R. RR. (1 of these)
52309-S6M-000 Holder, L. RR. (1 of these)
That is all you will need if you have an EX.

As for the LX and DX guys, you need to check to see if you have the 4 holes located on the rear subframe where the anti-swaybar mounts. If you don't know what I am talking about look at the pics that Grey has posted and look at the bolts holding the swaybar to the body of the car. Next you need to look and see if your car has endlink holes. These would be located on the front side of the lower control arms. These holes bolt the sway bar endlinkes to the control arms. If you don't know what I am talking about look at grey's pics and notice that at the end of the swaybar there is a thin mounting bracket that looks a little like a small black dogbone. If you have all of these mounting holes then go to Acura and ask for all the hardwear that comes with the swaybar. You need:

the swaybar
two rubber bushings
two bushing holders
4 bolts (to mount the above)
2 endlinks
4 nuts (to mount the endlinks)

that should do it.

sicsolx

I have pics of the bar installed and a comparison shot of the two bars, but don't have anywhere to host them from. If anyone could help I would certainly offer the pics.

JDM RSX R swaybar info:

go to ClubRSX.com and in the suspension forum you will find a post about a 22mm swaybar. Read that post and you will find out where you can get that swaybar and hardware for $150.

aznboy808: Only '01 LX's don't have sway bars. '02 LX's have them already.

sicsol: I'm sure that our LX's don't have holes on the rear subframe for the holders. Do you think that drilling a set is all we need to do? When you installed those new holders did you notice anything in particular about those holes for the bolts, or were they just regular drilled-out holes? Also, I'm not sure if our LX's have endlink holes? I'll check that out tomorrow. Pics of your install would be great and would help a lot of people. E-mail me at dobosz@wpi.edu and attach the pictures. I'll host them for you.

Edit #1: The thread sicsol talked about: JDM 22mm Rear Swaybar Installed

Edit #2: Judging by the weight distribution of our cars (approx. 60/40 front/rear) and the size of the stock front sway bar (25.4mm) the right size for our cars would be the 19mm. This size, coupled with the stock front sway bar will give us slight over-steer. The 22mm will give us much more over-steer. The rear of the car will want to slide out from under you during high-speed cornering. I'm going to go with the 19mm and upgrade my front bushing to polyurethane while I'm at it. This combination should be a nice improvement over stock and more importantly (to me at least) it will be cheap!

Word, just got off the phone, my dad is gonna upgrade to the jdm type-r bar for his rsx-s and hook me up with his old bar and bushings, then all I need are the mounts. SICSOL is my hero. BTW Sic, you never by chance cruised in a del sol did you? Also, I went to unionville down by kennett. Peace.

Grey, you have mail.

Intruder, that's great, I'm glad I could help. I was wondering that since your dad has an RSX, is there any way that you could post pics of the front and rear suspensions of his car (with wheels off of course). Basically, when I decided to see if the swaybar thing would work, I checked out an RSX sitting in a dealer lot to see if the swaybar mounted in the same places. So, if your dad's suspension settup is the same as ours, then we should be able to upgrade to an RSX 5 lug conversion (w/ suspension and rear disc brakes), or even tap into the RSX aftermarket giving us a wider variety of suspension parts to chose from. Any help would be appreciated. Ohh and yes I had a 93 delSol si before the civic.

sicsol where did you go to get the USDM 19mm sways? Link? I thought about a 22mm sway, but I don't autocross, I just turn in aggressively on the street so it'd be a bit overkill.

rsx-sway.jpg (396KB)
rsx-sway2.jpg (499KB)

Edit #1: sicsol: Did you change out the EX's endlinks as well, or are the EX's and RSX's endlinks the same?

Edit #2: !@#$ I took a look at the lower arm and it looks like it doesn't have any holes in it. It's not a simple matter of making a hole either. It looks like the EX's and 2002 LX's have a little piece of metal with a hole in it welded on to the lower arm. Take a look at the following pictures and then take a look at your 2001 LX's or DX's rear lower control arm:

Thanks for hosting the pics! The stock EX endlinks work just fine.

I just got back from the autoX and the rear end seems to be a lot firmer. Only on sharp turn in did I notice the car still had a little tendency to push or understeer. But, on the sweeping turns, which carry some seen the car seemed planted and there was no hint of understeer. I guess it should be noted that I have a set of eibach sportlines on my car and am running 205 50 15 kumho's

sicsol: Hey, could you take a picture of where the endlinks attach to the rear lower arm? It would solve once and for all if us DX's and 2001 LX's can attach a sway bar.

Sorry guys, I was just borrowing the camera off of my friend and had to give it back.

I did post a lot in that SHO delSol forum and I also had a link to my old website off of that site, so it could have been me, but I think that there was another guy going around pimpin my name too (thief).

Sicsol, the mounts/holders looks the same for ours as the rsx's, do we need the new mounts for this to work? are they beefier or something? Just trying to figure out what exactly I need, if anything, other than what I can get off the rsx. Thanks.

Hey, just a question, if the rear lower tie bar from DC sports (or anyone for that matter) was used with this larger sway bar, would it

a. not fit together, one or the other only
b. fit, but provide horrible oversteer
or c. fit and work wonderfully, angels sing, god comes down to earth, states "cool" and then goes off to throw his mac
?

I await...
