Need new suspension for 2002 civic 2dr
Need new suspension for 2002 civic 2dr
Hey guys, i checked out all the FAQs
now I have a question to all the experts over here.
Right now I'm really not happy with my stock suspension ,
(I compare everything to my ex 2dr accord, which I know is alot heavier)
So the things I'd like to improve on:
1. Stability of the car on speeds over 60mph. Right now it feels like it might fly off the road any time. Especially if the road is little bumpy it feels like the car is being thrown from side to side.
2. My stearing wheel shakes A lot at 60+ mph. No change after aligment, balance, rotation was done.
Right now I have stock suspension, 17" rims, with some Continental tires (dont have exact specs right now)
I understand that i need to go lower/stiffer, so what are my options? (Suspension wise, plus i think i need better rubber)
Thx

1. this is a lighter car... it will feel "light" at speed.
2. the OEM dampers Suck, pick up some good aftermarket ones (Tokico, KYB, Koni)
3. steering wheel shake = un balanced or out of round wheel or tire.. theres really no other way.
and finally, I assume this is specifically a street car right? if so, stay away from stiff suspensions... they may "feel" great, but actually offer worse handling then a more compliant suspension. :P

i just put neuspeed sports and kyb-gr2's on my 2002 sedan and it seems to ride good so far.. other then some groaning when i turn at slow speeds.. need some coil wrap i think..the gr-2's are 15% stiffer then stock (so i read)

3. Since balance and rotation of the tires didn't help, should I assume that my rims are bent?
Any suggestions on better tires btw?

Tokico/Kyb = about $500
Koni = about $575
I had to get mine balance a few times. Find someone with a better wheel balance than the shitty firestone ones. There are balance machines that tell exactly how much weight is needed and what part of the wheel the weight needs to go on. The firestone **** ones just put weights on the outside of the wheel which may not be the best place.
Falken 512s have been good to me.
