Front and Rear Clunking Noise

Hey im riding on koni yellows and neuspeed sport springs. And ever since i installed them the front and rear make a clunking noise whenever i go over a dip or bump. The fronts are properly indexed. Anyone kno how to fix this problem ? and does anyone else have this problem?

all the bolts are tight. It sounds like something is loose. I dunno whats goin on

this seems like the common problem everyone has when installing aftermarket suspension.....has somthing to do with trimming the dust covers i believe or with the springs not seated right

actually this problem does not seem to be related to the dust covers of aftermarket suspension. It would be a clicking or ticking sound if that was the case.

Clunking sound comes from the mounts when they are damaged. They don't cost much. Just replace those. I had that problem with my celica.

u mean the rubber mounts on the top? lol my car isnt that old. I have only have 7k miles on my car. Im pretty sure its my springs hitting the bottom perch of the spring seat because i never had this problem before i lowered my car.

i have to disagree with kasimmmmm. although clunking may result from damaged mounts, can't say that it's the only reason. i believe people have reported clicking or ticking from a poorly indexed install, which is not what this is.

do a search for coil wrap, spring wrap, or clunking and you'll see that we're not the only ones experiencing clunking RIGHT after lowering.

i think it makes sense that it's due to the higher compression of the springs hitting the next coil. if you noticed on your stock springs, they even had some minimal wrap on the bottom or top coils. it might look like a thin strip of foam tape wrapped on some sections.

Alright, here's the deal: I went through all this crap already so I'll save you the strife. The clanking your hearing over small bumps is the metal spring rattling against the metal cup that it sits in. Stock springs come with a coil sleeve that insulates this noise. If you still have ur stocks, check 'em and see. But it's not doing any damage, so don't sweat it. The noise your hearing when you turn the wheels is the dead coils rubbing against each other. To fix this, go to Radio Shack and buy a spiral cable wrap for 3 bucks. Then, jack up your car until you get decent space between the dead coils on your front springs. The dead coils are the coils that aren't being used (hence, "dead") located at the bottom of the spring, sitting in the cup. Once, your car is jacked. Cut about 3" of spiral cable wrap and slide it around the dead coils to act as a spring isolator. This will prevent the springs from rubbing thus ridding the noise. Do this on both sides and you're all set. To get rid of the clank going over bumps, you'd probably need to take the springs out and slide the stock coil wrap over the very bottom coil, but that's just too much trouble for me, so I haven't bothered with it. Not doing any damage anyway. Yeah, so try that.
i think i found the solution... hmm i think im gona go to radio shack and buy the spiral cable wrap

the problem is fixed all the gay *** clunking and clanking over bumps and dips are gone my friends!!! Dam it feels hella good. WHooOOoO!!!
i juss took apart my shocks and springs and put the coil on the very bottom where the spring sits on the perch. I did the same for the front to. O and also i put some on the 2nd to the top spring on all 4. So if u have clanking or clunking make sure u get coil wrap if your springs didnt come with them

um are u sure u put them on properly?
and did u put it on all for of your springs??
well make sure u installed your springs right. make sure its seated correctly at the top and bottom. how wierd my noise went away with the coil wraps

O yeh did u wrap the coil around the very bottom spring??
im guessing u didnt. well juss take your springs out and install it on the very bottom spring for your rears... That should cure the problem u have. U gotta read the info i gave u carefully man. that guy said the wrap the very bottom to get rid of the gayass clunking and clanking...

i'm getting a clunking/popping sound when i make turns at slow speeds (Tein SS-P). Was wondering if leaving it like this would cause any damage to the coilovers or the car itself. Thanks

so far i think noone has reported it damaging anything, so long as its just a small pop, if it s a serious sounding noise i suggest you get it looked at

thanks, if it won't damage anything, then i'm not too worried about getting it fixed immediately.

J.Lu - what did you put on? just the plastic cover for electical wiring? Maybe i'll try teflon tape. I tried to put grease on the springs but didn't know where to put it

so far wrapping the springs with wire covering is the only real effective means of silencing that irritating noise, most of us just deal with it since its not hurting anything. Oh and that were too lazy to put wire wrap on our springs.

Cool, thanks a lot for the info

just to clarify, my noise isn't coming from speed bumps, but from turning the wheel left/right... Is that the same noise as you Ryangt?
