When i dropped the built motor in 3 days ago, i have had a shimmy at 55-60+ mph. It starts subtly, but then gets very bad.

The thing is, it is only there probably 25% of the time. I have checked my lugnuts to make sure they are tight. The suspension is tight. I dunno wtf could be causing this. I would think that if i lost a balancing weight on the rims that it would do it constantly....


But just for reference, i have Tokico HP's and H&R Springs

Sometimes you wont feel a shimmy or wobble of an unbalanced wheel until certain speeds. Swap the front to the rear and see if it still does it. If it doesnt, then its something else wrong.

I'm surprised you are asking a question.
I'd check tie rods for execive movenment....Theoreticaly it is possible to have part-time shaky steering wheel.

lol. I dont do suspension. And when something is wrong with it, i am not afraid to ask.

But yea, it is there sometimes at 55 mph. And sometimes it isnt.

Like yesterday it was BAD. But today, nothing. Just like normal.

I didnt undo the tierod ends. The only bolts we undid are the two 17mm ones that hold the strut in, and the axel nut. But yea, i dunno.

I will have to go get my tires rotated. I have a coupon for a free tire rotation, so i guess its a good time to have that done.

Well since you just dropped it in it could be a lot. Make sure you're axles are tight in the hubs, make sure the motor and trans. assy is straight in the car, check the wheel weights, the lugnuts, the tie rod ends, etc.... are you SURE its the suspension and its not engine speed dependent (something out of whack in the motor or the mounts being loose?)

It isnt engine speed dependant. It does it at 55-60 mph every time. The gear nor RPM have no effect. Only the tire speed.

I was looking and i cannot see any weights on the wheels. I thought they used the stick on kind. Im going to have to check it out again.

But yea, the only parts of the suspension we took apart were the 2 bolts that hold the strut in, and the axel nut/axels. And i am pretty sure it is coming from the passengers side.

take it to discount tire and have them balance the tires

rotate the front tires to the rear to see if it still shakes - if it doesnt then you know its not your wheels/ tires, which is usually what causes vibration. if it stops, then you have somewhere to start. have you checked the tie rod bushings?

You might want to check your tire pressures as well, just a thought. does tempature play a factor? i mean doed it do it more when your car is warm or cold?

tire pressure is 35 psi.

It has been cold here lately. Like in the 50's-60's all day long.

What about when the tires are cold. Like you just started driving and get to 55 does it happen then?

sometimes it does it right away. Other times it doesnt.

Sometimes it will do it, then i will come to a stop, then accellerate back up to 60 and it wont do it.

It is too intermittent for me to diagnose any conditions other than speed.

I'm all stock, and i JUST installed my 215/45/17 about an hour ago. As soon as I hit 55mph, the steering wheel starts shaking. I was on the highway when this happened. I accelerated to 60 on a sidestreet, no shaking. Back on the highway, shaking. Back on the sidestreet, shaking. It must not be balanced right, i think WHeelmax f'd up.

Either an incorrect balance job on the tires or possibly a bent wheel.

I think i can rule out a bent wheel. I havent hit anything since i bought the rims.

Im thinking is a misbalanced wheel. I should have time on friday before i go to IDRC to have it checked out. I need an alignment anyway.

Umm random thought, are all your lugnuts tight? and on? lol. I lost 2 nuts on the freeway, and i was fine till i starrted slowing down. lol.. Then i got a violent shimmy.

low speed shimmy = bad tire
high speed shimmy = unbalance tire

try that first than move on to the next thing
