cant get shock off!!

Im putting new springs on my car and I got the front done, but now Im working on the back and i cant get the lower bolt loose. Its on so tight I tried a ratchet with a long pipe over it for leverage but i just cant get it to budge.

Would an air ratchet work??

Thanks
Gabe

is that long thick @ss gold color bolt? if so, yes, that was a pain in the @ss for me too lol.

what i did was i took a jack and pushed the brake assembly up a little, took a mallet and kept trying to hit it out. hope you have a partner in handy

if you are using a 3/8" ratchet becareful if the tools arent craftsman/snap-on...my bro was doing an install with husky and the ratchet sheared....either use at least a 1/2" drive breaker bar(aka t-bar) or use air tools...you can rent tools from home depot

no i know about the welded nut,
I rented a electric impact tool from Home depot and it wasnt strong enough,
Air is stronger but i dont have access to them.
Someone told me if you hold a torch to it, it will make it come loose a lot easier. Does this sound right?

Yeah that sounds right. I had to do that for a header bolt

The torch will burn up the bushing!
Rent a 3/4 drive breaker bar and socket, with pipe on the end it will loosen or break!

Don't use WD-40, use Liquid Wrench or something. WD-40 isn't rust remover, and it eats rubber.
That bolt shouldn't be so hard to get out, so something is seriously messed up. Are you sure its not spinning in the bushing (which seems to be a common problem)?
Try the impact gun, but don't torch it until you've tried ABSOLUTELY everything else.

you don't have to "torch it" you can hook up a hair dryer and air blow it hot.

And in the end... Its gonna come down to elbow grease. I too have had the same prolem with the rear. I even had an air gun on it and it wouldnt even budge it. In the end i used my foot. It was the thing that moved it and it still took forever.

that would take you at least a month to get it loose.your best bet it's an air impact wrench or gun.

I had the exact same problem last week when i was installing the rear springs on my g/f's 01. It was the driver side. The nut that was welded, actually ended up breaking the weld off, and had to take an air chisel and actually cut the bushing out. But i was also putting new koni's in and we didn't need the old bushing. Just go rent a 1/2" impact

I had the same issue with my drivers side rear, lower, shock bolt. I think they used too much torque installing the stock shocks. I finally used the old torch, heated up the nut, used wd-40 cause i had new AGX in hand, and eventually got it off. I too was dreaming of taking the dam thing into a shop to let them cut it off. But I got it!!

ok i did mine tonight. put some snow gloves on. take the the 5mm hex key and WD40 it and the 17mm nut on the strut. take the 17mm wrench, hold it down sideways, on the ground. with the snow gloves on, make sure they are thick, pull hard as ****. hammer a little, pull some more. key the hex key still yo. i used the hair dryer, wd40 and hammer. it worked after about 1 hour.

I put my ratchet on the bolt, then placed a jack under the ratchet, and after a couple pumps it came undone.

Wow, that last sentence sounds really dirty if you think about it...
