strutbars
strutbars
I have a 03 civic sedan. I have tein ss coilovers and really want to stiffen the chassis to bring out the full potential. I also have progress front and rear sway bars but haven’t put them on yet. My friend says I should get strut bars , tie bars , and chassis braces because he had suspension on his old prelude and where the struts mounts to started to pull away where it was welded to the rest of the car. I’ve been really disappointed in what bars are offered for the civic. The best one I saw was the neuspeed bar. I really want to get something like a mugen , do-luck, j's , carbing , or spoon but they are not offered for are cars. I guess im asking if any of those bars for the dc5r or ep3 fit our cars or if another manufacture makes a kickass bars for our cars.
I was also looking at a tanabe sustec under brace but I heard someone makes a 6 point bar that goes in the same place like rlz something?
The teins are awesome I just need to make the chassis stiffer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok. strut bars won't do much. My suggestion is put the progress sways on and see how it feels.
Spoon, mugen, etc, front strut bars are all three piece designs which is not as superior as Neuspeed's design. I think neuspeed has the best bar out there so far. Spoon front bar will fit. Rear cusco bar will fit but the rear bar is kinda useless. A rear tie bar comes with the progress sway but it isn't a performance part. d3 designs has a 6 point underbrace. Carbing has one for the DC5 but no one knows if it will fit but it hangs really low. Neuspeed and tanabe have braces too. You have to choose which one you want. They all will do the same thing.
You also might want to think about poly bushings even though the rears are a pain in the ***.
Yeah thank you robbclark1. Thats exactly the info i needed.
So its pretty much like this:
Front strut bar
Spoon vs. neuspeed
Rear strut bar
cusco
Chassis brace
Carbing vs. D3 vs. tanabe vs. neuspeed
front tie bar
neuspeed?
rear tie bar
neuspeed?
Im really liking that cusco rear bar. So the piece(tiebar) on the rear progress sway bar is good or no?. I also saw the neuspeed front lower tie bar is that a good bar? I really like the carbing bar but im on 18's with a finger and one half gap so that prob no good. Are there any tie bars from the dc5r or ep3 that fit our cars?

rear strut - cusco is probably the best.
Chassis brace - look at designs and pick one. There are pics on this site
Front tie bar - why get one when you have a front under chassis brace? You can run both, but I don't see the point. Under tie bars don't do anything but brace the frame from cracking. The front subframe won't crack, especially with the underbrace.
Rear tie bar - one should have come on your rear progress bar
thanks alot i am also looking at the suspension faq very informative. Yeah my progress bar came with a piece in the middle so i assume thats it. Are the more expensive bars worth the extra cost. Like a spoon compared to a neuspeed. Im kinda a brand name ***** so i really want a spoon front bar, a cusco rear, carbing chassis brace, and put on my progress sways. If i get the spoon front then ill have to go back to stock intake or will a injen cold air fit I have a aem v2 right now.

aftermarket intake won't fit with spoon bar. Why don't you consider neuspeed a brand name? you obviously wanted to buy their other parts. I would pick neuspeed over spoon because of the design, but I can give two ***** about name, as long as it does its job. The strut bars you won't really feel a difference. The sways will make a HUGE difference. The underbrace will make the front end a lot stiffer. (I had neuspeed x brace, but took it off to stay legal in STS autox).
I suggest reading the autox FAQ and Mike Kojima's page. I dont claim to know a lot about vehicle dynamics, but Kojima can really help you understand the difference between parts.

I have the sways but i was thinking that those with the teins might be a little to much with out some bracing. Plus my friend is always stressing that I brace my car cause of the aftermarket suspension saying that its hard on the car and that it needs to be strengthed. Do you know of a place i could order the cusco rear strut bar? I cant seem to find anyplace selling it. Does cusco make a front strut bar that fits our cars that would be awsome. I didnt mean to say neuspeed was not a name brand but more so spoon being "jdm"

um the Spoon bars u can get from jhpusa.com
go to suspension and then 02-04RSX
and as for the d3 brace you will scrape if you dont angle your car over speedbumps.. i scrape over tall and unlevel speedbumps if i dont angle my car on it and im dropped only 1.5inches (tein S-Techs)
