Arrow 2001 Civic pple with aftermarket

alrighty, I looked around this site for what i'm lookin for... couldn't really find it. If i'm reposting... please show me to the thread that i'm lookin for cuz i couldn't find em. Maybe i am searching with the wrong words...

Any 2001 civic lx 4dr owners replace their shocks/struts/suspension? I just wanted to know which aftermakets were good to increase the COMFORT of the ride. I bought my civic used and i don't think the person before got the stock suspension fixed ( cuz they were supposedly faulty). I was thinkin about kyb GR2's. I just want something that feels good, better handling will be a bonus. And I am not lookin to slam my car. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Well first of all shocks/struts are different from suspension. Do you only plan on changing your shocks? If so, there is a big thread up top called the Damper Thread. If you plan on lowering, you have to tell us what you are looking out of the car. Any aftermarket components are going to be stiffer than stock even if you change shocks but keep stock springs. If you want comfort, stick with stock springs and tokico blues.

Try this thread found here. I just got the KYB GR-2s installed due to the factory struts going bad on my 2001 Civic EX. Its talked about here.

YEP. I've had that sup-up before it rides so much better than stock , less body-roll, ride feels more stiff.

yea, i heard stock was best comfort. but damn, honda is selling them for $180.00 a piece. How are struts and shocks different... shocks are the oil/air pump shock absorbing thing that goes inside the coils. I don't understand what struts are... can someone explain?
bcuz when i drive my car i can feel every little line/crack in teh road... i don't mean slightly... i can feel em good. I took some air out of my tires and it feels a lot better but it's not THAT good.

You are very confused. You have stock springs, take them off your stock suspension and put them on AFTERMARKET shocks (namely tokico blues in your case). You should not have to buy anything from honda but maybe some misc bolts.

The rears are full shocks. The fronts are a shock inside of a strut, so they are sorta synonymous. Search for McPherson strut on Google or just look at the way the front shocks look. You will see there is a base plate that holds the shock. You can actually cut the shock out and insert Koni shocks into the stock strut.

That would be considered a strut cartridge not a shock
