this 1 may be for the guru's, how can you tell if a spring is progressive or not?

progressive springs are a different shape and are usually thinner. They also have a lot of coil bind at the bottom when compressed, whereas linear springs don't compress that much. Progressive springs are usually a little softer too as you can compress them easier by hand than a linear spring. (i am strictly speaking for car springs not any other type of spring)

ok, and what do progressive springs do that linear dont, whats teh differnt ride quality?

Progressive is smoother, it has a soft section, a mid section and a stiff section to help keep the car from bottoming out.
Linear is a straight rate like 400 lbs.
