Skunk2 coilover kit install question
Skunk2 coilover kit install question
Well I used the DIY and got the strut taken off but now i'm lost. The coilover kit came with directions but the pics are horrible and i have no clue what some of the things they are talking about. So if someone has already done theirs then please tell me how they did it or at least tell me what it means by trimming the perch, what the strut seal cover is, and how far do i need to cut the bumb stop. also it says i dont need the dust cover anymore but i dont see one to begin with.

Don't even bother with skunks.... shitty ride.
The perch is the metal tray at the bottom of your stock shocks. When using those, you may have to trim the metal to have the spring sit flush.
The bumpstop is the little plastic **** at the top of the stock shock assembly. You may have to trim it to make it shorter.
The strut seal cover is the dust boot (I think).
This is all from what I remember a long time ago when I helped a friend DIY his skunk2s.

hey, replied to your PM
you DO NOT need to cut/trim the perch on skunk2 coilovers. its a direct install without any special modification. no cutting bumpstops, no trimming perch, none of that... UNLESS you are trying to drop lower than 3" or for some other special related issue. strut seal cover? idk what that is. im guessing its another term for top mount plates (the metal plate that sits right on top of the skunk2 coilovers, which comes with the skunk2 coilover kit.?
dust cover... is that just a boot that protects the strut from getting all icky?
The spring install DIY just covers how to take the stock springs off, it doesn't say anything on how to put the new ones on. The directions I have say to take the strut seal cover off(which is the gold part) and put an O-ring where the gold part was. Then place the threaded sleeves on the strut with the non-threaded part at the bottom and then tap the strut seal back on. My problem is when I put the threaded sleave on it goes all the way to the bottom and I dont see how it could be adjustable that way. So if anyone remembers how they installed theirs then please let me know.

I'm still baffled as to why people can't search for the answer.

Omit the part about Konis, just drop the front sleeves on stock shocks. I don't know the skunk2 hardware but GC gives you a new front bumpstop, you cut the rear in half and only use the top half of it, and you don't use any dustboots.

yes, once its installed in your 2500lb car, it will compress and the upper mount/strut area will then get in contact with the spring as the weight brings it down.

Konis have an excessive amount of travel in them. More than you'd ever need, which is why the springs come unseated. Once on the ground, everything compresses.
About being an *******... Yeah, I really don't care. Because I already know the answer, and I knew the answer was out there in about 5 different places. Even then so, I'm sure Skunk2 has a phone number where you could get clarification on what gets installed in what way. Get used to shitty instructions or no instructions if you're gonna screw with stuff. Even Honda can't write good instructions and they built the damn car.
You may have searched, but you gotta look at how many people don't look for anything and just post 1 dipshit question after another... and quite honestly, it gets tiring to look at the same question asked 4 times a day.

I have had skunk 2 coilovers for about 2 years. Here's my .02. Put the rear coilover on the front and front on the rear, trust me. I have talked to skunk 2 about this problem and if installed like the instructions say, the rear will not lower very much at all, I found out the hard way. The front spring will be VERY loose and the perch will just sit on the spring. The rear will be kind of tight. I like the slammed look so I trimmed the rubber bump stops so there is only 1 bubble in the back and just the flared part in the front. Make sure you always wd-40 the **** out of all threaded parts, I have since day one and have had NO problems. And to whoever says they are a shitty ride, fu*k em', it's not that bad. Nothing beats a stock ride anyways !! Hope this helped.
Yeah thats what i ended up doing. Once I got the right instructions from skunk2. I just got to get everything aligned right and I should be good to go. I could slam the front but the back didn't move. So I swapped them out and it looked great. I greased the top perch and haven't had a scrape or a pop out of them. I'm just amazed that I did it myself. I've never done anything like that before. So i'm proud of myself
. I was just a little disappointed with how some of the questions i asked was answered(or not). But otherthan that, I had fun.
