annoying problem--help!
annoying problem--help!
I've just installed tokico blues on my car to replace blown oem front struts. I'm almost positive that i installed the struts correctly as per factory service manual. I was sure to align the dots on the plates as in the photos in this thread:
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...ighlight=noise.
Suspension was preloaded before torquing to spec and all that. My problem is that now my car is making this hollow, faint creaking noise from both front struts when driving at low speeds over rough roads. I can reproduce the sound when pushing the car side-to-side slightly from the a-pillar or front strut tower brace. I don't remember them making this noise when I first installed them (2 weeks ago). Does this sound like a problem in the installation or is it just slightly noise shocks? Also, i noticed the sound is more apparent on cold days. Thanks for the help.

YOu may want to go back and make sure all the bolts are still tight. Also, check how the springs are seated on the spring pearch, if they are too close to the edge the springs can make a squeaking noise.
See Pick #19 to see what I'm talking about.

Mine make that same creaking after spring install! I dont think we lined up any arrows tho. Before with the stock suspension, it used to creak until the dealer lubed the rear sway bushings.

Thanks.

I think that may be my problem...it sounds like a low 'clunk'. Sounds worse when cold. When i installed them i think that i put the spring end flush against the end of the spring perch. Is there a way i can rotate it w/o taking the assembly off and messing up my [$60] alignment up?

Mine makes a noise as well, I told the shop to replace my upper mounts when they put my struts on, I think they reused my busted one though. I hear a crack from the middle of the car a lot, though. the noise isnt as bad since I replaced my struts, but I want it gone like hell. Usually right turns make the noise a lot more often. What could be making the noise from the middle of the car? Is it the wishbone part? ANy help would be great. This seemed like a nice thread to post in, since there is a bunch of people with similar probs. Mine is the middle though. PM me or respond if you have any suggestions on what to check. Thanks a lot!

The spring isnt suppose to move around, but you should be able to move it once your car is jacked up. With no load on the springs, just grab both sides and give it a good twist it the direction you want to go. The end of the spring should be butted up against the perch once compressed. What I ended up doing was buying some clear tubing and wrapping the bottom coil wth it so it would act like and isolator and to help it from twisting around when cornering.
A couple of things that must be checked for proper installation are:
-The top of the spring MUST be seated correctly in the rubber isolator and the perch arrows must be lined up with the hole on the lower perch. If not then the spring wont be locked in properly and can twist around causing noise.
-The top mount(part with the 3 bolts) MUST be lined up with the top perch and hole on the bottom perch. Once this is lined up(also referred to as indexing) you have to make sure that the arrows are pointing inwards towards the engine bay when you install the strut assembly. This is because the upper perch sits at an angle. If you dont have the arrows pointing inwards the top mount wont sit flush inside the strut tower and will cause all kinds of problems and noises.
Here's a picture I made(same one in the above link) that describes what I mean:

-Make sure you dust covers arent hitting anything.
Also it could be the dead coils making noise. Maybe try some coil wrap(spiral wrap from Radio Shack) and wrap it inbetween the dead coils.
