struts are blown
struts are blown
well my struts were makin this tapping noise, sounded like metal on metal sort of. took it in to honda said they were blown and needed replaced, they told me it would cost 500 bucks.now im sure thats a rip cause its honda. but have no idea on how and if i could replace it myself let alone the price for new ones. so can some of u guys tell me if u could do it yourself and what it involves cause i have no idea. also if it would be better and or cheaper to get aftermarket struts. my car is lowered and i have 17's so if i can better the ride quality more like stock with aftermarket struts let me kno. cause i miss that or just put some stock ones bak on thanks.
Yeah aftermarket ones are anywhere from 320-500 so I would say aftermarket is the way to go also if you are lowered you will want aftermarket ones otherwise your new stock ones will probley blow pretty quickly again. I lowered my car and it is bouncy as F*** so I need new ones also. As for doing them yourself I would see it being terribley hard. When I get new struts I plan on trying to put it in myself. But I can't really help you with a what you need to do.
ok thanks, i will go with aftermarket struts. i have a 2in drop with springs.do u guys recommend any kind of struts? i kno nohing i just want to have a descent ride again caues its gradually getting worse.if anything make the ride softer or a little more forgiving, thanks guys

Basically you can go wit Koni Yellow's (most expensive but I hear they are amazing) inserts in the front and full assembly in the back.
Personally I wouldn't buy them simply because I dont race or ride hard so I dont need the most expensive ones, and I dont really like the fact of cutting my old front struts and re-using the housing to fit the Koni front inserts into them.
I'd rather settle wit Tokico Blues (non-adjustable dampening) or Illumina's (adjustable). Not only are they way cheaper, but they are also full replacements (hence, no inserts).
I also know if the company called KYB ... and they have 2 struts available for the 7thgen. The KYB AGX strut is fully adjustable, and I believe full replacements (no inserts). Although I think they are more expensive than the Tokico;s

Slow ... to be honest if you dont know what your doing ... I would really just go to a shop and pay to get it installed, or if you have any experienced friends that can do it for you for free or something.
There are some unusual tools that you'd need that most people dont have, like when putting it all back together, you need this tool that compresses the spring etc etc ... You have to also make sure the strut is indexed properly, and I've heard of people stripping the top threads on the strut mount .. which would mean bye bye brand new Tokico's.
You'll also need to send it for an alignment afterwards ... so honestly it will save you a hell of alot of headaches and trouble if you just go to a shop .. Should only be about 3-4 hours of work/labour.
